Wrexham’s Children’s Services.

Nothing runs successfully on agency staff. Many of the BCHB’s problems stem from the over use of agency staff and unfilled vacancies and the same seems to apply to Children’s Services in Wrexham. Only now are they filling vacancies with permanent staff and cutting back on agency staff. From a financial perspective agency staff are more expensive and totally unsuitable for use where children need continuity of care. Why has it taken so long for this situation to be addressed?

In many businesses there are good financial reasons for employing agency staff. No NI, no sick pay, no holiday accruals, no PPE costs, no training costs, no redundancy pay-outs etc

I would hope that even as agency staff they get trained — perhaps that has been one of the problems that suitably qualified people have not been working in Children’s Services. The Council would still need to pay for PPE as that is a Health and Safety cost that employers are responsible for.
This latest CIW letter goes back to issued raised at the end of 2018 – two years and still a deteriorating service..
How bad dies a Local Authority need to be before a service goes into Special Measures.. how many of out=r local children and families have been let down during this time..

You’re missing my point Jane. In many cases it’s not up to the end user to train agency staff or supply them with PPE. They expect them to be trained and equipped by the agency.
