BirdmanParticipantWith the news the the current Tory government planning on the final blow for privatize the NHS thus making health care a consumer industry much like the USA where something as simple as a check up is costly. On that I’d like to point out that Wrexham hospital is one of the largest in the area and not only employs a lot of local people it also is a training hospital for many future nurses and doctors in various areas of medicine. If the Tory government continue on this backhanded strategy of destroying the NHS this will not only change the way we live to a pay per visit culture (rich people getting seen first and better treatment including MP’s) it will also see hundreds of local people out of work. Although Andrew Atkinson has said he want’s a free and better NHS (as we all do) saying it will not make it so, his party does not and so he will have to follow party instruction and agree to privatization. There is not a family I know in this town that doesn’t have someone working in that hospital and that’s why I will be voting for Ian Lucas and the Labour party.

wrexviewParticipantTHe NHS in Wales is devolved and run from Cardiff via the Welsh Assembly, there have been a few threads on here regarding how improvements could be made. Labour run the Welsh Assembly and have not managed the NHS well, waiting lists are longer here than in England. Our Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board has been badly managed, although the staff continue to provide a good service against all the odds. It’s time we has a real National Health Service with a level playing field for all, no post code lottery for drugs, no imaginary borders to treatment and equitable budgets.

99DylanJonesParticipantFully agree that NHS should live up to it,s name as National. Medical conditions don’t stop and start on country boundaries. The amount paid per head of population should be the same UK wide as it is funded from same source– taxes and National Insurance.

AlunhParticipantIt must be election time again because the NHS is once again being used as a political football. I’ve not actually heard anyone even hint at the idea that Health will be provided in the future for a charge at the point of delivery by anyone. I have however heard many politicians express an interest in making the NHS better. Why do people always assume that someone who wants to make changes wants to trash the ethos of this great Institution and, believe it or not, changes can be made.
In Europe, the Dutch system seems to be regarded as the best system where results and value for money is concerned, yet even looking at best practice seems to be a cardinal sin in Britain. Same with Germany. I doubt that Aneurin Bevan anticipated a stream of hedonists turning up at A & E on a Saturday night expecting their free medical treatment at the point of delivery yet there seems to even be a taboo on discussing this uncomfortable reality.
Ultimately, the NHS is a devolved matter in Wales and we need to remember that

zingerParticipantOnly 27% of the electorate in Wrexham bothered to vote in the 2011 referendum for the Welsh Assembly to gain more powers over health. The other 73% have no rights to complain. Where would we in Wrexham be without the services Broad Green, Christies, Alder Hey to name but a few. I assume that the Welsh Assembly have to pay for those services, quite rightly as it was voted upon, but far preferable to having a 3 hour trip to Cardiff.

CVA01ParticipantAlun H, you do realise it is blasphemy to even mention that the health care systems in some other European countries are better than the NHS. And to imply we could learn from the Dutch or Germans? Man that is like inciting people to revolt. You do know the NHS is the envy of the entire world so we clearly have no lessons to learn from our continental cousins. The fact they achieve better outcomes is unimportant!!

99DylanJonesParticipantThe one thing that is clear with all health workers is no one is there to do a bad job — they are operating in a system is full of red tape and paperwork that removes staff from front line patient contact.
NHS is a political football with changing goal posts no matter which party is in power – for fear of offending readers each and every person in the UK needs to take responsibility for all elements of their life- the biggest impact on the Health Service is that personal choice for smocking, drag taking, over eating to name but a few of the areas of our lives that could impact on our health- people living a healthy life style would reduce the demand on many services and enable what resources that are available to be used more effectively.

wrexviewParticipantLabour saying “All systems Go” for a new health centre in Cefn Mawr , reality is they have launched a petition! Labour have always been in power or coalition in the Welsh Assembly so why have they not pushed this before ? It is not just how much money you have but how you spend it. Labour have spent money on webcasting council meetings, recycling projects and buying an airport all of which are not essentials. Health should be properly funded first and other projects undertaken if there is money left .

JaneJParticipantWhy did they not progress with the new Health Centre by the entrance to Rhosymedre school — Health have the land and had the plans for the site about 7 years ago… WG was Labour — Health is Labour Controlled and the land available.
