For all those who dont want the prison because local would not get the jobs because they are not qualified, It is called “training” I bet there are loads of security guards & special constables that could be training to be prison security guards & other jobs include well some of the jobs would be catering & admin.

Im sure most of the jobs will be from people within 20 miles of the prison.

It’s great for the town. Whether on the trading estate or elsewhere. It will give much needed jobs for locals.

Surely there are many positions that would not require specialised experience? I would imagine the likes of catering, housekeeping positions would not NEED to be farmed out as surely there are plenty of able and willing local people suitable to fill them. As for the building of this development are there really no suitable Wrexham based contractors capable of being involved in its construction? I think that it should be insisted that a reasonable percentage of this work be put out to local tender TBH.

This is what I’m saying. They don’t need to be farmed out and in many cases won’t be. The building work probably will need to be farmed out due to the nature of the building etc.

Looking at WCBC’s response today, they will be pushing for that, which I believe is a reasonable move.

That is good news, thanks for the update. Regarding the building work I fully appreciate that specialist contractors must be used for significant parts of the building but I’m slightly at a loss to understand why local contractors could not be used to assist with the many areas where security would not be an issue? (laundry, catering, offices, car park etc.) This is the sort of thing I believe WCBC should be initially looking to push for.

£250million is set aside for this project which is earmarked for the Industrial estate. Creating 1000 jobs which includes builders, plumbers, electricians etc.
That’s got to be good news for our town.

Do you know how the procurement process works for the ministry of justice?

Did you notice Osbourne talking about renegotiating PFIs with its suppliers on wednesday?

They have only selected the site. There will still be a full consultation process. Not sure, but it would probably a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project through the planning inspectorate than anything local though.

They usually have contractors in mind for this type of building work. I recall when they built the Chirk community hospital, they were brought in from builders who had built similar hospitals.
