the Super Prison gets press coverage on the basis of Welsh Government Business Minister visiting Business Professionals (lawyers and accountants)… but we are told the report on the Super Prison already suggests that the employment and supply chain benefits to Wrexham will be minimal. We need to start by considering how we are teaching and qualifying our young people for future life, and address Ysgol Clywedog performance, and other education in Wrexham. We should not be promoting another public sector spending spree that will not add value to the County, and will cast a shadow over Wrexham. Wrexham needs more employers from industry

Why do we have to look at importing industry into wrexham rather than having the confidence to export?

If we believe it fits with the mix of Wrexham, then lets go ahead and do it, perhaps it depends on a place, large conurbations certainly take prisons into there locality, and the total size of the population and economy probably dwarfs any concerns. Business and industry in Wrexham is declining based on the suggestions about the town centre on here, and the decline in business rates in the financial statements of the Council. There is plenty of opportunity for investment into areas of the UK, and a lot of this is from overseas, including China, India and Russia. If we do not stem the tide of those leaving Wrexham eg Tetra Pak, Wrexham and its economy will shrink. Exporting has great opportunity, and just as we should be encouraging investment into the town, we should be enabling our current employers to export.

Getting a super prison will not help investment from other countries. A prison yes but not a super one.

Although for me the psyche that wrexham has to turn to outside investment and outside business for everything is a sad reflection on the town’s & townsfolks’ ambitions.

    Believe in yourselves!

The proposed sites have gone forward for consideration. I believe that Denbighshire’s sites were turned down as unsuitable. I am still undecided on this one.

I don’t think that it will enhance our image. If it truly meant lots of jobs for local people I might think differently.

Can someone shed any light on the ‘enormous economic advantages’ that Cllr Neil Rogers says this prison will being to the area ?

And the next bit isn’t even funny – ‘it would also be of significant benefit to prisoners who come from the surrounding area who will be able to see family and friends more often’. Great, as long as the prisoners are happy it doesn’t matter what the local residents think.

That is what is so annoying the press don’t ask leaving neil rodegrs to mislead.
