“The prestigious ‘Wrexham Champion Sausage Competition’ will take place during tomorrow morning. The competition has become a firm favorite in the town’s calendar since 2008 and sees butchers from across the borough competing for the title of Wrexham’s champion sausage-maker! The results of the competition will be announced at around 1.30pm.”

So that would be March 2nd this year, a date renowned in the world of sausages! :)

There were stalls up in Queens Square selling some lovely local products, and a cooking presentation.

Strangely enough though – there were no sausages on sale!!

What really surprised me was the fact that the Welsh Assembly have subsidised some Food Festivals to the tune of £5 million over the last five years! I don’t think Wrexham is one of them.

I’m very much looking forward to this but would be more so if there were more local producers taking part – which I thought was kind of the point. I’ve spoken to a couple of producers who have attended in the past who’ve said they won’t be this year due to the expense.

Looking through the list of loacl producers and outlets listed on localfoodfirst.com I can only only see 3 who are listed as exhibiting next weekend.

To rub salt in to the wound, the Welsh goverment have donated a rather pityful £7,500 to ‘help raise awareness of the high quality of food and drink on offer in Wales’.

Thanks for the link Adam , by reading to the bottom of the article it does indeed look like Wrexham does receive money from the Welsh Government!
