MattParticipantAs usual with everything else completely going to the dogs in this town – we learn that the local food bank on Rhosddu Road is shutting down due to the premises not being deemed fit for food storage with no suitable alternative yet secured.
Food stocks expected to run out within a week. Nobody able to make any new food donations.
The man in charge of dealing with it Mr Anti-Poverty lead is the same man whose party is inducing poverty on entire families by a wholly inadequate and flawed universal credit system and also vicious cuts to those on PIP in genuine need.

NenParticipantI don’t agree with food banks, partly because they allow the government to be sloppy on welfare. They are also reliant on people’s generosity – a “generosity tax” which I don’t like.
I also think that basic needs like food should be provided by the state where required, not charity. For the same reason, I don’t see why end-of-life care is not provided by the state (I.e. hospices).

shiftingspaceParticipantI have compiled a small selection of articles which illustrate just how, as Matt quite rightly characterises it, “wholly inadequate” and “vicious” our welfare system is.
Please read and share on Facebook so we can put an end to this cruel Tory austerity.

MattParticipantYou’ve provided us with a complete set of unbiased references exclusively from the Daily Mail and Telegraph?
I think that backs my argument up. Thanks.

JPParticipantThey need 3000 square feet, that is about double what they have currently.
How about the old Country Store building, closer 8000 square feet, full height loading dock, car park.
Local to town centre, close to the druggies highway and local to all the dosser services.
They would have room to expand, they could even bring people in by train.
Rates will be free.

Council WatcherParticipantAgain a Wrexham.com thread that has started on one topic quickly changes to another completely different angle. The work of the Foodbank and all the volunteers should be congratulated and supported in finding a new location. Not all people who collect a Food Bank parcel is either drug/substance abusers but they could be anyone similar to the readers and writers on these threads if their life changes due to anything from loss of job through to family separation.
I have never seen anyone from a Foodbank pressurise anyone to give to them so personal choice is still letting them carry on their work.
The reason why Foodbanks have expanded is a far bigger Party political issue that has been driven by a variety of successive Governments changes in policies on benefits, reduction in support services and added family pressures. These changes are in the hands of everyone by making sure when elections come around that they are electing a Political {artyt that matches your beliefs about the type of society you want to live in.
