Unfortunately some of the cycle lanes in Wrexham are not maintained and/ or poorly designed. The surface of the cycle lane can be badly damaged, covered in twigs, thorns and glass and recently overgrown with weed and nettles. Poor design includes lanes that are too narrow, include grids and potholes, poorly laid out at junctions or come to an abrupt end. In many cases cyclists are left with only one choice – to join the rest of the traffic and often this is a better option. I cycle regularly and use the well designed cycle routes (e.g St, Giles Way) but would avoid poorly maintained one (e.g. Jeffries Rd). I’d also ask other road users to respect those cycling and give room – say 1.5 meters – when overtaking.
