Have just seen this job on the council’s website:-
ORGANISATION DEVELOPMENT LEAD OFFICER, a new post to play a lead role in identifying, designing and developing organisational development initiatives to positively to contribute to the delivery of the council’s plan.
The salary for this post is in the range of £42,930 – £48,444.
In this time of cuts to this budget and that budget do we need another jobsworth sitting in the ivory tower as the initial job description comes across as a load of bull because as a lowly council tax payer I can see no valid reason for this job to be advertised and filled.
Perhaps those in the know can show us the light as to why this job is needed.

This ‘new’ position will not end with the appointment of a lead Officer. No doubt he will require a secretary and probably an assistant and thus the creation of a brand new department.

In these times of austerity should not be increasing the number of managers and departments, but rather should be looking at their existing departments to take on these responsibilities. They council should also looking at whether some of these posts are necessary at all.

Are all the functions of this new job not already in the Job Description of the Chief Executive and the three Strategic Directors!!! What on earth is going on if the existing senior management team cannot fulfill this role.

After watching the Executive Board meeting yesterday I am surprised they have found the money to fund this new appointment. It will be in excess of £50,000 with employers National Insurance and Superannuation. They were talking of extra cuts over and above those already earmarked in the region of £4,000,000 so this job must be on an “exceptional need ” list.

The job has probably been ‘created’ to find employment for someone who is in for a cut in another Department. The position will only be offered to an existing staff member. Ask around any Council staff and they will all tell you about staff being moved to new positions as soon as funding ceases with their existing position. This is the real danger of only offering jibs to internal candidates rather than testing the full job market and getting the best person for the job — internal candidates reduces the pool of talent and also stops new blood getting into an organization.
