Wrexham Council have the audacity to tell us, the ratepayers, there is absolutely no spare money and essential services face cuts and yet they shake the money tree and find enough to pay for the total resurfacing of the Councillors Guildhall Car Park! Speechless!!

Put under the guise of ‘health and safety’. Couldn’t make it up. I think the cheeky beggars best do some good for the town and light a rocket up Glyndwr’s backside over the Dean Road playing field debacle to make up for it.

As staff are being moved from the Council Lampit Street offices at present has the car park ben resurfaced as part of a deal to attract a better price from a developer to convert their ‘surplus’ offices into apartments to complement those that are being developed in Henblas Street.

There does not appear to be any details of the building being on the market but a number of staff have side their move is so that the Council can dispose of the building-

I have no issue with surplus buildings being sold off but if the resurfacing is part of the ‘carrot’ to attract offers the question has to be asked about whether this ‘enhancement’ will attract an enhanced offer price.

Also wonder if Councillors are aware that part of the car park is likely to be part of the offer deal?

What will the capital receipt funding be used for -to prop up the budget or will we see some enhancements for the town.

I have seen a couple of mentions of similar around – and have spoken with WCBC this morning.

Wrexham Council has confirmed there are no plans to sell off any part of Lambpit Street offices.

I would not be surprised if the General Market were to be put up for sale.

“Mr Williams went on to give further details for the reason for the resurfacing works: “The works will address the deteriorating surface condition of the car park, along with Health and Safety concerns around pedestrian entry and exit at the car park.”

There are more pressing Health and Safety concerns in the county borough, especially around the deep pot holes and sink holes. Does Mr. Williams consider his priorities are correct ?

How come a car park mainly for Councilors and staff can be completely resurfaced to what can assume is a high standard when the potholes around town are filled in with a shovel of tarmac that needs to be redone every few months. One of the most dangerous is close to the entrance to Lidl on Salop Road – the size of the hole is likely to throw anyone of a bike or motor bike.

Temporary poor quality for the public and gold standard for Councillors- I wonder how much change they are getting from £100k for the resurfacing- have the funds come from the roads budget or from the anticipated income from Council Members who were going to pay for the privilage or having their own car park.. Shame on Coucilors and officers for putting themselves first instaed of looking after the whole community.

Who made the decision to spend this money on the resurfacing of the car park? Did all Councillors have the chance to vote on the decision, or was it delegated to officers/lead members only ?
