Question:- Insp W… If you had £1 million pounds extra budget for policing what would you do with it? Same question to Cllr but on a council spend not policing
HJ: From a Council perspective we would invest more money in social care.

IW: Assuming this is an annual increase and allocated to me in Wrexham, I would have 18 extra PC’s and 7 extra PCSOs, because the public tell us they want to see more uniform on the street.

Does the UK intoxication laws for being drunk and disorderly not also cover individuals who are causing a problem whilst under the influence of or incapacitated by illegal drugs or so called legal highs?

I believe that the legal guidelines state:

“The police will only get involved if the person is so intoxicated they are unable to act in a reasonable manner, such as passing out on the street. In that case typically the police will, depending on the circumstances, help the intoxicated person on their way or place the person in a police station cell until sober.”

Now there has been evidence of people passed out in the bus station countless times, either drunk or otherwise intoxicated on other substances. Why are these people not being either moved on by the police or placed into a police cell until sober?

Also, people are regularly witnessing the dealing of drugs and former legal highs in these areas, why are police patrols not able to spot these dealers and arrest them?

It is a very concerning fact that there are unsupervised children of school age, vulnerable elderly and young mums with babies and toddlers, as well as others who have no choice but to use the bus station every day and are forced to share this space with individuals who are a potential threat and are 100% unfit to be around the general public as a result of what they have taken.

This just isn’t good enough, it doesn’t matter how many council strategies are applied in committee meetings or plans to improve the situation, what the people demand is action and the taking back of the bus station for the people and local businesses of Wrexham to feel safe again as they do their daily commute and go about business. There should at the very least be some kind of permanent PCSO presence at the bus station as the current security situation is not acting as an effective deterrent to anti-social behaviour.
As you might expect there has been a few questions about the bus station – two questions about safety here:

Karl – Would he/her feel comfortable taking their kids to the bus station ? If not why?

Michaela – For 12 months my daughter travelled by bus to Wrexham to get the connection to her place of work, I am horrified and what I have seen on tonight’s news..

The drug issue really needs sorting. Put the fag end situation on hold and deal with this. It’s awful
HJ: An ex-PC advised me yesterday as a result of the progress being made he now feels much more comfortable taking his daughter through the bus station than previously. As I have repeatedly said, we have more work to do to completely irradicate the problem from the police station.

IW: I have just walked through the bus station, there were no issues what so ever. I had officers there at 5:15am this morning, and through the day. I have also spoken with council security staff there.

HJ: In honesty we are tackling both issues. Kingdom do not have the same powers as the police to deal with drug misuse, and it would be unfair to the users of the town centre to allow the littering situation to deteriorate and result in a negative impact in the town.

IW: The pictures that were shown this week, even though not absolutely current, are evidence of use of controlled illegal drugs, clearly we have to get involved in that. Our increased activity there over the last few days is evidence of that.

If people monitor social media feeds we will highly publicise what we are doing there to restore peoples confidence in that area.
Another about the bus station from Tony – this time about CCTV…

Are the CCTV cameras in, and around, the bus station monitored?

If they are, why do the public have to phone the police when there are issues at the bus station?

Not just druggies but kids cycling inside and people ignoring the no smoking signs. It makes people very uneasy.
HJ: Wrexham Council has invested a significant sum of money in upgrading our CCTV system which is now the best in North Wales and is monitored 24hours. We still need the public to report issues to north wales police.

IW: Any incidents of anti social behaviour should be reported. If we cannot respond at the time those reports will influence our patrol plans, and therefore future police patrols will be in the area, so instances should reduce.
From a comment on facebook it would appear that the security cameras at the bus station are faulty, the lack of response without calls from the public seems to confirm this.
If it is the case how long has this been the case and when are repairs likely to be completed?
The previous answer was referred to by both IW / HJ.

    Another question for Inspector Wycherley!

What exactly does he inspect and what’s the outcome of his findings?

    Question through from Lauren:

Would it be better to set up a centre for people who take drugs like Scotland did? Obviously it’s still bad but will then keep the streets cleaner and safer and maybe help to get the druggies off the drugs, maybe volunteers could help?
Two questions in from Colin:

The amount of burglaries and attempted break ins that are happening in Garden Village and Acton at the moment surely there should be made a more police on foot patrol around there. Why is there not more police around garden village and Acton when quite clearly a lot of burglaries are happening?
IW: I am aware there has been an increase in that type of activity in that area. Our PCSOs are on foot patrols in those areas at the times we think those offences are taking place. There is a particular group of individual targeting that area, some of whom who have been arrested and are on bail conditions preventing them leaving their home address between 7pm and 7am as that is when those offences were taking place.

There is still much more to do with this. In addition to the uniform presence, we are deploying plain clothes officers into the area as a tactic, and that has met with some success as well.
The ongoing drug issues and homeless in wrexham has been at fever point over the past week within the media, what are the proposals on how they will deal with it?
HJ: The fever point has resulted from mainly historic pictures being used to portray a current situation. Working in partnership with police and support agencies we are using a combination of the law and recovery pathways to provide a long term solution to the problem. Progress is being made, due to the complexity of the issue progress will always be slow. We will continue to work hard to resolve these problems and issues for Wrexham. All of us are determined to restore the reputation of Wrexham as a safe place to live, work and visit.

To councilor Jones.I appreciate that budgets have been cut, but why have the council allowed the town to get in such a filthy mess. The pavements around High St, the bus station & townhill & Brooke st are a disgrace.Dirty shop doorways smelling of pee & vomit.Temple row looks as if if hasn’t been cleaned or brushed for years.

Surprised you never requested money for the police band.
Sorry I have lost all faith in the police in Wrexham
