BenjaminMParticipantConsidering that Wrexham is considered to be ‘the finest shopping centre in North Wales’, what a sad, pathetic effort has been made to make the town look ‘festive’.
I walked around the town centre last evening and was dismayed at the poor quality of the light display. Many lights were out and there was no colour, or reference to it being Christmas-time.
The lights are supposed to help people get into a festive and spending mood, but this is unlikely to happen this year.
I do realise that Local Authorities have to be thrifty, but they seem to find the resources that benefit Members (consider the issue of iPads) but that is another story.
Take note WMBC, and particularly the Town Centre Manager. Start making things happen ( not more mobile phone or pound shops) to truly make Wrexham a premier shopping centre.November 28, 2012 at 1:22 pm #57794
NJonesParticipantWe could string all the councillors ipads together and make a garland across the street- they’d probably get more use then!

RobParticipantWrexham.com was involved in the switch on – but not the lights themselves.
We were told though they were new LED ones this year, apparently cheaper to run and better.
The latter may not be the case!!!

There are or will be better light displays around peoples houses, the best one every year is Robinsons from Robinsons garage New Broughton, take a look town centre manager, and take note.

TaffyParticipantThey may not be to everyone’s liking but at least we have lights and a tree….some towns don’t have any due to cut backs.

thewayneinspainParticipantMy view is that like the bid for city status, this shouldn’t be job or responsibility of the council, but the community and town stakeplayers
e.g. those will make money from it – local businesses, the shops like debenhams and landowners like those who own eagles meadow.
Local residents if they feel obliged can if they want donate lights or cash.
Schools could donate time to make decorations.
Local communities could donate time to make decorations too. When people volunteer time together, they can create something a 1,000 times better than the council ever could.
link to what one community in barcelona does every year and it’s smaller in size than the golborne estate … Puts us british & welsh to shame. All the decorations are recycled from the rubbish too, money is tight and 1 in 4 are unemployed.
