New Plan For Wrexham Beach – No Council Money Involved | Wrexham.com
“Plans to bring a beach to the town centre have been revived, with the hope that no council involvement will head off any negativity.
The highly debated and somewhat ‘infamous’ Wrexham Beach idea was raised again at this months Town Centre Forum by James deKoning of Grand Prix Dodgems, who said that he would like to host a beach event on Queens Square in August.”
Last time round the council were putting in some money, resulting in a ‘backlash’. This time round it seems it due to be a privately run event , so will it get support?
The answer to that is that no one actually knows. This, however, is not the point. James is an Entrepreneur willing to take a punt on this event and I presume has done his homework. There are many success stories around the UK where a beach based event has been put on. I trust that it will be a fantastic event and that James makes a shed load of cash. If he does, he may well put a range of events on in Wrexham, none of which will cost the rate payer a bean. If he doesn’t, it may be that he’ll give it another go, it may be he’ll try something different. Either way, the risk is with him and the gain will hopefully compensate for any pain.
This is how it should be and Councils should rarely be spending money on this kind of thing. Of course, they can help make this a success and I trust that they will
