Driving through Lavister earlier today I noticed the vets have a large banner outside advertising week- end opening. They are open both Saturday and Sunday. I wonder if the idea will catch on with doctor’s surgeries!
All public services that support the employed population, including our homes and what we do in our communities (eg waste & parking issues); should surely be available each evening until 9 or 10pm, and each Saturday, and ideally each Sunday.
I tried to contact the dog warden the other day after I had finished work. I had to ring three different numbers, all had recorded messages stating the opening hours. In the end had to ring the emergency number. If I need to do it again I will just ring the police station. At least they work out of hours.
Everything that applies to owners of animals and vets also applies to people and doctors. Workers would find it very helpful to be able to have week-end appointments. It is all down to organisation , no one is expecting a doctor to work 7 days a week. Many businesses and organisations provide cover 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Why were doctors allowed to negate their responsibility for their patients from Friday evening until Monday morning ?
