johnhoppyParticipantIf it were not for our diligently run Wrexham.com I and no doubt many others would not have heard about this consultation. It is little wonder that the public response to their previous consultation (regarding what remains a mystery) is so low when we are not told about it.
Perhaps we should have a consultaton about the consultation.

wrexviewParticipantAnyone else tried to fill in the survey? Snap Survey this time ( as opposed to Survey Monkey) have saved it as it is taking several minutes to download the next page ! Think it is a problem with the site as Internet working fine with every thing else .

Mrs CreweParticipantThis white paper is such a waste of time. Literally they are going to keep us stringing along until the next paper which will be released in autumn 2015. The consultation of this will not be released until after the Welsh Assembly’s elections. 75% of the working people in Wales work for the public sector, so they will wait until their party faithful have voted them back in to really shaft the local govt.
I’m not against it per se, without doubt the whole of the public sector in Wales needs a damn good shafting. I object to the cynical way the useless WG is stringing it out. Come on sheeple don’t keep voting these incompetent idiots back in, it’s time to give some other idiots a try!February 3, 2015 at 10:17 pm #72033
RobParticipantThe term limits could be good – however 25 years still seems ages!
To me a term limit based on sequential terms would be better, so you can have two terms back to back then have to stand down. This would allow new blood, but also opportunity for those who are good to ‘come back’.

wrexviewParticipantSome Councillors even on Wrexham Council, have been around for nearer a half century !

Mrs CreweParticipantI noticed in the leader all the long standing Councillors from both Wrexham and Flintshire kicking off about the term limits. On from Flintshire said it was “against all principles of democratic government at every level”
Tell that to America which has term limits on the Presidency and is the self styled home of democracy! There does need to be a change of faces, with all the good will in the world people do fall into ruts and become entrenched in procedures and ideas. For local politics this is more important, there are wards in Wrexham (like many other places) which will always vote one way. I could put a red ribbon on my cat and he would be voted in (and look very annoyed).
I think that in this Mr Andrews is right, it would be more democratic to give more people a chance to be Councillors and keep the Councils alive with enthused Councillors with new ideas.

99DylanJonesParticipantLeighton Andrews just needs to get on with the process — determine the footprints and instruct people to act. All the dithering is ridiculous and it is all to do with Democracy and letting people have their views! What is the point when there is clearly views in the Senedd about how things should be looking.
We still have the Leader of Wrexham saying the Council can manage on it’s own — yet there has been no statement or comparisons put forward.February 4, 2015 at 7:54 pm #72040
Mrs CreweParticipantThey won’t tell us the layout of the new councils until after the Welsh Gov elections in May 2016. They know that the majority of people working in Wales work in the public sector and will be hugely effected by the council merges. They also know that the majority of people who vote are workers or retired workers, so they don’t want to lose their party faithful by telling them the level of redundancy coming.
This is the dilemma for a socialist government who makes itself the champion of the public sector worker instead of the champion of all employment. When they have to make the necessary cuts to local govt they overstuffed they know they are making themselves hypocrites and losing their main support.February 4, 2015 at 9:10 pm #72036 -
