There is a distinct increase in traffic today. Why ? It’s Friday and maybe because it’s payday for many and they are going shopping. Also rumours in press that Wales is to have stronger lockdown rules and everyone is getting out while they can. Whatever the reason we need to stop and stay at home , this virus hasn’t gone away .

Looking at how long it took me to get out of a junction on the way to work then I think restrictions must have been lifted.
Off tomorrow so will have to get the neighbours over for a BBQ and a bit of karaoke.

Unless the police enforce the STRONGER lockdown rules then people will be out more and the virus WILL spread. Its hard ro be annoyed at individuals because you do not know if these are essential people BUT the pr1cks you see speeding and revving should be in nursery school never mind on the roads.

Wrexview, traffic has been growing steadily at ‘home time’ too.

Boy racers rear their heads again ! just shows everyone must be thinking the same, needs stopping.

A lot of people get Monthly pay around the 24th of the Month. The Supermarkets were noticably far busier today than they have been.

The PTB haven’t really introduced stronger rules. People are still allowed to leave their homes for the same reasons. Just a clarification that they should not remain out after completion.

I think you are right Andy, everyone will just complete all their non essential tasks before they reach their final essential task and complete it rather than after. If they get pulled over they can just say they are going shopping – as long as they don’t have surf boards on their roof – noone is going to ask where else they have been on their current mission to the super market etc…

Also, another interesting question – there’s rumours abound that McDonald’s will be re-opening for Drive Thru and Delivery mid-May. So the question is will “Just going to the Chirk Maccy’s Drive Thru” be a valid excuse for travelling out for essential food? If not, then surely that’s entrapment by McDonald’s to breach lockdown.

Third and final point – there were a ridiculous number of cyclists on the road today – more than I’ve ever seen even on a glorious summer non-lockdown weekend. Cycling is a great form of exercise and don’t want to discourage it, but why are some cyclists using their excuse to go out as exercise to go for a 30 mile+ several hours bike ride?
Then there’s the cyclists riding in parallel with their mates who seem to think it’s acceptable to ride on a path.

FYI – this was my first trip out in a week to do the weekly shop so lots of observations probably due to cabin fever. I’ve now not had to fill up my fuel tank in about 6 weeks and still got quarter tank left.

Why the “ridiculous” number of cyclists on the road today comment?
There are 10 times more people out driving or walking.
As for why do some break the rules? Dunno. Why do drivers kill 7 people a day on average in the UK?

My point on cyclists is backed up by specific clarification required by the Welsh Government in terms of the new guidelines:
    https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/new-wales-rules-exercising-during-18142904

    * Cyclists on shared paths should be considerate of walkers, runners and other people cycling: they should stay two metres from others, slow their pace and stop to let people pass as appropriate.

    * Cycling should be local, as a rule of thumb limited to travelling no further than a reasonable walking distance from home.

    * Exercising by cycling significant distances from home is not considered to be a reasonable excuse for leaving home.

The comment about drivers and deaths is complete whataboutery in this context. We are all fully aware that there are dangerous motorists about 24/7/365 and we’d all like them off the road.

You can agreed or disagree with it and it probably is sad as it cycling distances on your own or with family members clearly doesn’t increase the spread of Coronavirus, but like everyone else – movements of cyclists has to be restricted like everyone else. Motorists can’t go on leisure drives 20+ miles from home, likewise ramblers can’t plot out epic hikes.

These are the times we live in and sacrifices must be made to ensure the emergency services are best positioned to save lives.

You can only cycle close to home and not go out for hours.
