The market that was destroyed had soul. It was always bustling & busy. You could hear the activity. I don’t remember seeing an empty stall. If you couldn’t buy something in the Vegetable Market then you didn’t need it. The Peoples Market feels soul-less. There is, nor ever has been, any atmosphere. The arcade is/was OK though. I am so sorry for the stall holders there & the Butchers Market. The mix was there before & I am afraid that it may be irretrievable.

You may be right and it may be so. The optimist in me tells me that it isn’t the case and, oddly enough, the fact that the Council have proposed spending so much money suggests that they don’t think so either.

If the money is there (which it appears to be) and the will to act is there (which Peter Scott suggests it is) then it appears more about good implementation than anything else. I agree with you. A good market has that undefinable buzz about it. To get that, you need to top and tail the current operation looking at every detail of the markets that don’t stack up. From the name (People’s Market-yuggg!!) to the ambience, to the management, to the marketing, to the rents, to the access to it (TJHughes, etc)

The council don’t seem to want to help the stall holders. In fact it seems that they are trying to empty the market through increased costs with no increase in customers being created. I walked through the Peoples Market last week and it’s heart breaking to see what has happened there. I know there are empty shops in the town centre but when it’s condensed as in the market it really hits home.

    Absolutely agreed

There was a thread about the ‘Town Manager’ going on twitter? If this happened, why can’t they come on this forum, and make daily contributions?

Reading these threads, it is imperative that elected councillors get involved in these debates quickly, and bring about the changes Wrexham needs.

We seem to be unanimous that Wrexham is not in a good place, and when business people who are the professionals in trade want to get on and do something, we should all support them. While we stand back as a community, trade will continue to decline, in favour of more attractive and competitive offers. While other shopping venues will always be competition to Wrexham, it will always have its local population, and it can find something unique that it is known for and can provide where others cannot.

But the more time that goes by, the more customers walk off to other locations, and become loyal to their offering.
