wrexviewParticipantOnly two small tents remain on the site today. Have the Council found accommodation for those who have left or have they just moved on?
September 23, 2017 at 9:04 pm #137734
DerekJacksonParticipantThey might have moved but the underlying issue over substance related problems in town most certainly will not have gone away. The number of people at the encampment was minute compared with the scale of the issue- remember this was primarily accommodating the Mamba / Spice addict. Heroin addicts generally were not in residence there. As some at the Groves site had tenancies they have now perhaps opened their own front door to others — no doubt at a high price (to feed their own habit) for space on the floor.

wrexviewParticipantThe portable toilet placed on the site by the Council remains there but it has now been pushed over onto its side.

Someone’s going to be kicking up a stink over that.

NenParticipantDoes anyone else find it strange that the Council were quick to provide a portable toilet for these deadbeats but can’t do the same for the elderly visitors to town?

In a word, no. Not me, anyway. What do you mean by providing toilets for elderly visitors to town? There are toilets in the bus station and in Eagles Meadow. The latter are really very nice (it’s 2 or 3 yrs since I used them, so I suppose they might have deteriorated), but the bus station ones are horrendous – it’s wise to have a good look around in there first, to make sure you’re not about to be stabbed by a discarded needle. I prefer the old bus station toilets by far, even with their shiny toilet roll.
I’m a bit confused, Nen. What is your stance on the ‘homeless’? Sometimes you seem to praise the treatment of the ‘homeless’ in Wrexham, that it’s good the council are providing some services, and other times not (e.g. you called them deadbeats).

Council WatcherParticipantAs the Groves campers appear to have disappeared into thin air does it mean that they were ‘seasonal’ only. There have for many years been ‘seasonal’ people who would turn up out of thin air to attend protest marches, camps, festivals and demonstrations and then disappears.
Over the years there have been the big protest such as Greenham Common with many women putting their lives on hold to protest– many people may remember characters such as ‘swampy’ who used to dig holes at many protest sites and go to ground.
You have to ask how many at the Groves were actually from reasonable stable backgrounds but joined the camp to just be part of the action. -
