wrexviewParticipant“The council is currently in negotiations to bring a new school to the site.” Quote from today Leader.
At the Executive Board where the decision was made to demolish the building we were told the site would be vacant until money was available to build a school or schools , indication was that could be some way into the future . Now it appears negotiations are under way. Perhaps our original thoughts were spot on, a developer wants the building demolished as a precursor to agreeing a deal to develop. All through Faith School would be my guess.

99DylanJonesParticipantThe creation of the faith school has already been listed in some details earlier in the thread by moving St Josephs, St Giles and St Marys- The Council cannot contemplate a completely new school coming to the Graves area due to lack of children — currently Rhosnessni High has gone from a 5 class entry down to three- any less pupils and it becomes unviable unless that is the Councils other intention which is close Rhosnessni and sell off their land. Either of these options are feasible on paper but the Council will be looking for the best income opportunity first and education second.
Lets hope for the sake of the children of Wrexham that it is the Faith option as they have the best educational standards at the moment.March 9, 2016 at 9:24 am #108927
wrexviewParticipantThe leader of the Council indicated that the Groves site would be used for a new school to accommodate children from an expanding population. It now looks like it will be a replacement school for St Mary’s primary. One primary school will not require the whole site. How will the rest of the land be utilised?

Councillor XParticipantMy suggestion of placing the Arts Hub on the site was ignored as the invisible covenant on the site restricts the use of the land for educational purposes only ………… but think of all the parking for the 10000s that will be using the Arts Hub every week!

Pinky02ParticipantThe groves site is on the new LDP out for consultation, I think it’s page 575. The whole of the site is outlined and proposed use is ‘residential’.
It mentions site constraints but it does highlight the fact that WCBC have looked into building houses on there!March 9, 2016 at 6:12 pm #108957
wrexviewParticipantHad a quick look at page 575, the brown area ( residential ) is on the other side of Powell Road to the Groves, it seems to be a rectangle drawn around an existing house.

wrexviewParticipantIf you look at page 589 there appears to be a deliberate mistake , maybe set to see who is looking carefully at the plans !!

Pinky02ParticipantSorry Wrexview, if you are looking at the page numbers on the bottom, The Groves is on page 544.

wrexviewParticipantYou are correct page 544 does show the Groves site with a brown ( residential ) line around it.
