In 1974 , the year after we joined the EU, there was an election in the February which left a hung parliament and when neither side could maintain a working majority another election was called in the October. There are many similarities with today’s situation as regards possible alliances within Westminster, however there is one major difference, Brexit. How do you manage Brexit with a hung parliament? The chance of history repeating itself must be high. Fresh election in the autumn is probably too soon but look out for one in 2018.
