Perhaps the Planning Committee will realise that as a result of the Covid 19 Pandemic we will need every bit of help here in Wrexham to turn the local economy around. Erddig is one of our major attractions, people travel from far and wide to visit. Many of those visitors also come into the town. Perhaps as a minimum, the committee should visit the site before making the decision to refuse it. Do we really want people to be turned away only to spend their money up the road in Chester.
Nationwide the National Trust has committed to reducing its CO2 emissions as well as the emissions and environmental impact of its visitors, so this refusal provides it with a chance to think again whether building another car park at Erddig is really the long term sustainable solution. They have already extended the car parking there in recent years.
Erddig is not that far from Wrexham town centre and its public transport connections so there are opportunities to encourage more visitors to Erddig to travel via Wrexham using trains and buses, with resultant benefits for the town. People who visit the property by car invariably drive straight past Wrexham both on their way there and on their way home.Loan have you ever been to Erddig Hall? If Arriva won’t put on services to rural areas then you have no chance with them goin out in the sticks to drop off people there.
To get more visitors they need somewhere for cars to park. Empty buses going there and back will add to CO2 emmisions
Erddig is hardly out in the sticks. It is ten minutes walk from the edge of Wrexham and an easy cycle ride from the train and bus station. Obviously many people have to use their cars, but if the National Trust wish to attract even more visitors then they should think of the environmental impact. What is the point of looking after an historic house and gardens, if meanwhile, environmentally they are ignoring the medium and long term consequences of the people who visit? The National Trust own the land between the regular bus route along the Ruabon Road (through Felin Fuleston) and Erddig – they have an opportunity to lead by example.
They could get one of them old fashioned double deckers, like the one that takes tourists from LLan to the Ponderosa.
