He was going to stand as a member of parliament very shortly after that. Dr John Marek was resigning — was retiring. I just feel this was a chance for Ian to say — he’s got two children. It was a chance for Ian to say, ‘We did have that conversation’, and I’m sorry that he didn’t find it in himself to do that.”
This refers to a conversation or conversations that took place in the late 1980s. Ian Lucas didn’t stand in a parliamentary election until 1997. He only became MP for Wrexham in 2001 after John Marek left the Labour Party during Tony Blair’s time as PM and established Forward Wales. How many years count as ‘very shortly’? By concertina-ing the time involved, she is making some serious accusations!
