cmaj76ParticipantHi,
Does anybody know what the bad smell on the industrial estate was yesterday? It’s back again today but not quite as bad.

Wrecsam_ladParticipantAs there is a lot of marshy ground on the industrial estate and surrounding area it could be coming from the marsh land..
Just a thought..

Born AcornParticipantSaw a tractor towing a green tanker down the new dual carriageway on Holt Road, by the Golf Club.
Possibly slurry spreading on the fields?

RobParticipantWe did a tweet update earlier – and the latest from the council is:
“Officers have been on site but so far have been unable to identify where the smell is coming from. It is reported to be less intense than it was yesterday when the Environment Agency first received complaints.”
It really was pungent last night there!

ChrisParticipantBest place to start is Kelloggs they have there own sewerage plant which is/was in a poor state of repair. Workers at skip site used to moan about the smell blowing across.

Sorry to correct you, it’s an effluent plant Not a sewerage plant and is in a very good state of repair and checked regularly by government bodies too deem it so.
I believe it separates food waste from the water used for washing down equipment etc then treats it before allowing it back into the eco system. It’s also constantly monitored by computers and staff !
In light of the above, I wouldn’t think the source would be Kelloggs.

michellecookParticipantMy mum lives near Kelloggs and the only smells from there are usually very pleasant, though do make you crave cornflakes with warm milk :).
The smell seemed worse around the junction near the old Redwither pub, which is also where the gas smell was over Christmas.
The fields are soaking and as they are mostly clay it is turning to mud, not being helped by idiots on motorbikes churning the mud up all hours of the day and night.

As someone who has worked there I stand corrected on its description. But dont be fooled by the brand name. When i was there it stank daily – ask the neighbours and you regularly could not discharge waste to the plant because of system faults / capacity issues. I guess capacity might not be an issue with Kellogs current downturn.
It does not surprise me though that the smell coincides with the plant starting up as there would have been a lot of cleaning going on prior to start up.I do agree that the authorities do monitor its output into the River Clywedog and the quality of waste water discharged from the plant is well within the the current quality limits.
It may be the case that the plant no longer smells I do hope so for the poor relations who work in bar plants as they have to go past it daily.

michellecookParticipantMy mum has lived near Kelloggs for almost 30 years, we have never noticed a bad smell from there. I worked at Wrexham Lager, I know how badly effluent plants can smell.
