Although there are covenants on the remaining Groves buildings to ensure they only get used for educational purposes, plans are in place to build a new ‘Leisure Centre’ on the Groves site for shared use with Wrexham schools..

Rumour has it that the new £14.7m leisure facility, The Groves Sports Complex will not only replace Plas Madoc and Waterworld but with its planned state of the art Athletics Stadium, may also prompt the closure of Queensway.

    :confused:Lets hope it is just a Rumour!

Councilor X I think you are slow off the mark with this issue- I first posted this two months ago. The move of Queensway is unlikely unless the Council can get a large sum for the site (highly unlikely even from Lidal and Aldi who have been looking around the area for a number of development sites for 3,000 sq ft stores and car parking – key search areas are Cefn/Acrefair – Llangollen Road (how about Maelor Youth Club – Council owned, Penycae/Rhos, Rhostyllen, Abenbury, to name a few) as there will be a repayment due to Sports Wales.
The Council are also committed to ‘off loading’ all of their leisure services to a Leisure Trust within about 3 years so would be unlikely to be able to take out loan finance).
Coleg Cambria are unlikely to want a second athletics stadium as they already own Deeside at Kelsterton..
Coleg Cambria takeover was delayed due to their merger announcement before end of June.

Is this the equivalent ‘splash’ for the economy that Eagles Meadow was to retail? All shaped in quiet corridors …
