Remember the Hippodrome

Anyone old enough to recall the good acts seen in the old Hippodrome?
Wrestling, pop groups etc. I’ve seen a few there in my younger days when
Barry Flanagan had it.

I was only allowed into town to go to the cinema there. The usherette and her tray of ice creams etc at half time were the treat of the whole visit!

I remember seeing a fantastic wrestling match with Jackie Pallo. Saw some great groups there too,

I went to the Tivoli in Buckley when I was a teenager, to see Carl Douglas. Told my parents I was staying in a friends house. Typical teenager behaviour lol

Talking about that, my Dad used to book and compere in Llay British legion, we had Ken Dodd, Bert Weedon and a few more come home for supper after their stints in the legion.

How did he get Ken Dodd off the stage? One he started there was no stopping him!

So true there, another that went on for ages was George Roper, he went on for 2 hours and was only booked for a 45 minute spot.
