The law applies to everyone and those who commit criminal offences should expect the police and courts to deal with them. Are we too tolerant and lenient in Wrexham? There are already laws against possession and dealing in drugs without a Public Space Protection Notice.

Why on earth the Council spent over £200k on the conversion of the toilets for use by the night time economy drinkers when they don’t spend on the day time issues. I am led to believe that the Brook Street Centre has actually only been used on 10 occasions so far- this being the case what a colossal cost per person. Nothing more than a good PR opportunity — why didn’t they invest in a mobile unit that could be used during day time as well- absolutely no joined up thinking.

You should also reflect that most of the people ending up in A & E from drink/drug related issues are actually people who are in work. How many of these could be Council, Health workers your neighbour or dare I say it a member of your own family. Alcohol and drugs knows no social, ethnic or gender barrier anyone of us could be affected by the issues on a daily basis in our family or social issues- they could be on the start of the slippery slope– would you help a member of your family in this situation?

Could I ask Dylan, how you are privy to the information that drink/drug related visitors to A & E are people in work?

Over the Christmas period in many areas, including Wrexham, a Welfare Centre is opened bringing together a number of agencies to help support those in need. Why only at Christmas ?

Zinger — my statement is based on what the Council put forward as the need for funding for the conversion of the toilets — it was to cope with night club/pub drinkers when they said that was the heavy demand period on A & E services due to excessive drinking and substance related issues. This justified the massive investment in the toilet conversion. If it was to do with the people referred to on this thread about day time drinkers then why isn’t the facility open during the day as a triage centre for A & E.
Most people hitting the town at night are either in work or have alternate income sources to fund their excesses

Fair enough – although you do say that the Brook Street Centre has only been used 10 times.
However, the people on the streets & in the parks who are drugged up or in an alcoholic haze causing a nuisance in the daytime are more than likely not working. Their families have probably had enough of them.
