Quite clearly if there was no Vibrant and Viable funding then this option would not even be on the table.
With the number of staff and services being cut surely there must be space in the Guildhall or Lampit Street offices for the Police Station to move into.
As the Arts Gallery is to be ‘boxed’ up until the new premises are sorted will undoubtedly create an opportunity for it never to reopen– why couldn’t the Council move it to the empty space that is on the first floor of the museum- oh sorry forgot the Museum is likely to be in the next round of cuts!!

I has not realised that we were in fact losing the Art Gallery until such times the People’s Market was ready! Personally if the Gallery must be moved the most attractive option would be to relocate it to Waterworld , if it is to be closed as swimming pool. £800,000 spent on re designing the interior would produce a beautiful gallery area.

The report to the Council Exec states that the time to get the Peoples Market ready for the Art Gallery would not link with March 2015 which is when the Police would want to take occupancy.

Oddly enough the report regarding the Oriel / Police Station going before the Exec Board tomorrow is one of two parts.

Pages 49-54 of the development report are under Part 2, meaning press & public are booted out and the webcasting will presumably stop. Which means we will only see part of the discussion and those watching the webcast will see the meeting temporarily stop and the public leaving.

The reason for this section of the report going under Part 2 is listed as: ” Not for publication by virtue of Paragraph 14 of Part 4 of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended). The Proper Office has determined in considering this report that Paragraph 14 should apply. His view on the public interest test was that while he was mindful of the need to ensure the transparency and accountability of public authorities for decisions taken by them in relation to the spending of public money, the right of the authority or a third party to the privacy of their financial or business affairs outweighed the need for that information to be made public.”

Is not the North Wales Police Authority a public authority, and as such are we not entitled to know how much the move to the Oriel is going to cost? I can understand that discussions regarding payment to/from individuals and Companies need to be kept confidential at times, but to other public bodies financed by the taxpayer??

This is a very valid point as Clr Hugh Jones gave an assurance at the Executive today that the rent from the Police would go into running the ‘new’ Culture Centre.

Going by a slip up by Councillor Pritchard, I imagine the reason why it went into part 2 is because of the arts hub moving into the Peoples Markets / the businesses that are currently occupying it.

It worries me that the police station will be moved to a backwater like the old “Oriel” gallery and the divisional headquarters moved to Llay, which indicates an absolution of response to Wrexham town centre crime. It also makes the downgrading of Wrexham Magistrates in favour of a “Clwyd wide” court system based in Mold.
