DRParticipantFor those interested in watching this evening’s Planning Meeting, the link can be found here:- Planning Committee – Mon, 03rd Nov 2014 – 6:30 pm – Wrexham Council Webcasts
Quite a lot on the agenda tonight – including the super prison and Rhosrobin Housing Development.
The full agenda (and it’s quite a long meeting report!) can be found here:

wrexviewParticipantThe new Prison is being debated, comments were made about the negative press in Wrexham regarding the effect on the NHS, Council Griffiths states in that case we would not build any more houses! The point made about the effect on the NHS is made in the knowledge that a higher percentage of inmates have complex health needs including mental issues, drug and alcohol dependency . Councillor Rogers commented that he was still not happy with the number of car parking spaces , the planning Officer stated that Wrexham Prison would have more parking than another Prison. Of course it should it is to be the largest one in England and Wales!

The MonitorParticipantAre councillors supposed to represent OUR views or not? From what I have heard of public thinking No One wants this monstrosity. So obviously councillors are once more following their own agenda and ignoring the desires of the Electorate. Councillor Griffiths should go back to school.

99DylanJonesParticipantJust seen on the Twitter feed that Councillors have rejected the Rhosrobin housing development. This seems bizarre as the story on this site earlier in the day seemed to assume it would be supported.
Is there something else going on with Council Members appearing to have a negative vote against the recommendations of Officers — surely this is starting to appear like a Vote of No Confidence in the Planning Officer and Planning Department if the advice of professionals is not taken up.November 3, 2014 at 8:36 pm #69904
wrexviewParticipantFor the first time there was real debate and it looks like because Wrexham have no LDP in place the Welsh Assembly dictate they have look carefully at proposed developments even in the green belt. There appears to be problems with surface water removal from the site and Councillors felt if this land in the green belt was developed it would be opening up other similar sites in the area. The Llay New Road is also very busy and an extra 117 houses would add to it. There was also some debate whether the local schools could cope with the extra influx of pupils. The local Councillors wanted refusal and the majority agreed with them. This it seems was the first large planning application using rules which would not apply if we had a Local Development Plan in place, on land that has had planning permission refused previously .

Saxon1ParticipantLets hope the local councillors in Llay will give the same concerns to the proposed Gresford Road site where 365 houses are proposed on green belt land.
Where will it all end !!November 3, 2014 at 10:56 pm #69914
The MonitorParticipantI totally agree. Why build on green sites when there are acres of brown field sites still, in Wrexham area.

wrexviewParticipantThe real question here is why hasn’t Wrexham got the “five year plan” for housing land in place ? Had we got this plan in place the Planning Department would not be following rules that ONLY apply when you don’t have a Plan.( Made up by the Welsh Assembly) . The Green Belt would be protected and any developer would know this land of was not available for development. Will refusal on the grounds it is in the Green Belt be strong enough to survive an appeal ? When will Wrexham Council have the Five Year Plan in place which will protect our Green Belt?
