With the market closed there will be implications for those who run businesses in the small shops in the arcade leading to the main People’s Market, there will be no passing trade.

What the f*** does Wrexham need with an “Arts Hub”. Take a look at the centre of town and you will see it’s DEAD. Killed by the Councils drive to encourage large retailers to sterile shopping precincts outside the town centre.

Wrexham town centre is now filked with empty units, cash for gold type establishments and modern pawn shops.

The council should be encouraging small retailers into the town centre with reduced rates rather than closing down the market and yet again wasting our taxes on another bloody stupid idea!

Time for the idiots at Guild Hall to step down and let someone with common sense take over.

EXACTLY ///// I refer back to my previous comment :-

“If there were to be a referendum for the PEOPLE (who actually live here) of Wrexham on whether they would want an Arts Hub in Wrexham at all, I wonder what the result would be mmmmmm !”
The idiots are the full time officers who come up with the ideas. A lot of the Councillors who pass these ideas also leave a lot to be desired.
The Post Truth era has reached Wrexham. Despite repeated promises from Wrexham Council that the Arts Hub would be built around the traders in the People’s Market , they have now changed their minds and say it is not possible to do that, and the only option is for the Market is to close in January. From the beginning people have questioned the possibility of developing an Arts Hub and Market in the same building. More openness and honesty about the project from the beginning, might have prevented businesses facing the prospect of relocation with three weeks notice , just before Christmas. Will there ever be Market traders in the People’s Market again ?

How large a building is needed for an arts hub? Because just in case it’s escaped people’s attention, there’s a perfectly good building just across the road. The old TJ Hughes premises.
No good?
Well what about the BHS store?
No good?
TK Maxx?
No?
Well how about moving the charity shop and knocking through from TJ Hughes to BHS? That’s a sizable chunk of real estate right there.

Now the market has closed where are chavs going to get there counter kit posters of man united players from, not to mention having their stolen phones unlockd! this is such a loss for the town,

The only GOOD shop, which is consistantly good in that market is the little newsagent /sweet shop on the arcade into the place, and I believe that’s not going to close …. so something to said for a capitalist system I think :P

Fuck me, first you wanna save a closed down school, now a run down old market, when virgin media truly gets going in wrexham you will ban them becauseyou wanna save the tarmac on your street lol

Walked through the Butchers Market this morning. It now looks and feels like a market should feel. All stalls occupied and plenty of shoppers around.

It seems to me that WCBC have made a wise decision in closing the People’s Market, both from the stall holders and shoppers perspectives.

If any sanity exists, it should remain that way. The Peoples Market has been neither use nor ornament for a long time and whatever mixed use it is now put to, anything would be better than what existed previously.
BenjaminM if you think that anything would be better than what existed previously, What are your thoughts on the costs of the new development? 5.5 million development costs, loss of revenue to WCBC for stall, shop and car parking charges, plus the budgeted losses for years to come. Is this better than before?
