[quote quote=139520]Got to support the very relevant points made by Nen and MP1953.

I’ve got a shop in Bank Street. It’s hard work. It’s quite soul destroying when the remark is made that Wrexham is a dump and there’s nothing in it. Bank Street is a great example of a vibrant street and when I look at those parts of Wrexham’s retail and cafe offer that didn’t even exist a few years ago, it does make me wonder. Ok there are problems…many of them. Equally, a town that puts out the welcome mat to visitors……coming by Bus, Car, Train Bike or on Foot…..has a chance at getting better….much better.

This is not about Pedestrians vs Car drivers, Tax payers subsidising, or any such like. It’s simply about getting people into town by hook or by crook, spending money, and encouraging Business and Enterprise to flourish. Believe it or not, Entrepreneurs will invest in Wrexham but they do need to see signs of encouragement and a willingness to set the scene correctly. Bike lanes, a Bike Park, better Bus services, a Coach Park……bring them all on

    Yep, transport infrastructure is vital.

Of course, I missed a bit in my “virtuous circle” – the part where more retail businesses itself attracts more shoppers, thereby again attracting more businesses (and more rates revenue for the Council) – but you’ve got to get those shoppers into town first – remove any barriers like parking costs and the other suggestions you make.

The other thing I think WCBC should do in town, although this is more a summer months thing, is waive or subsidise the fees charged for cafes, restaurants and bars to put tables and chairs outside, and to facilitate this as much as practical – you could get a bit of a “Mediterranean” feel in the nice weather.

The car park charges for the Arts Hub Ty Pawb published and proposed in the Fourth Street Report dated 26th November 2015 are very similar to the increases the Council are proposing for 2018. Is this a coincidence or are the Council setting the charges to keep in line with Ty Pawb? Whatever the real reason it seems a backward step to increase the pricing structure.

Chairs and tables outside only attract one thing, the zombies looting the stumps out of the ash trays.
Wrexham has lost the shoppers for this reason, it’s not the parking.
Something needs to be done about them, urinating in corners in public view! Disgusting!!

Where do you expect them to go? Many of them have been driven out of their home towns like Rhyl and Chester by a combination of services being cut and banning orders, etc. Give them a break.
