Why oh why has WCBC got a bee in their bonnet about building on every spare piece of recreational space in the county?
There is a huge area of land with a school building already on it which has a covenant on it for educational use.

Did this land not come as part of the Groves Land deal and potentially have a Covenant-
Where are all these children going to come from for a new School- Borras is to be extended and a Welsh setting created- within 1 mile there is Rhosddu, Alexandra, Barkers Lane, Acton, Borras, Watts Dyke schools. Surely you build schools in new areas when there new housing estates – where are the Council going to build new houses that may generate more children.

If there is growth in numbers of potential pupils would it not be cost effective to expand existing provision – the costs to staff new schools and infrastructure will be a lot more than an extra class so where does the financial model for a new build stack up.

The closest site for development would be Prices Lane Playground and Allotments – surely the Council can’t be looking at selling these for housing!!

Have the Council compared the cost of a new build primary school against a refurbishment of the Groves building. The Groves site is a spacious site with space for nursery, infant and junior children.

What is the bigger picture across Wrexham with the Council looking to make money?
    1. There is no sudden (or predicted) surge in pupils looking for a Primary School so why is there a need for a new school – there appears to be enough places to meet all current demand within the 1-mile radius.
    2. The pressure for spaces for places in a school in town is St Marys Catholic school that is bursting at the seams who have previously looked at the Groves and then walked away from that site.
    3. St Mary’s could move to Nine Acre on a land swap with the Council
    4. The Educational Covenant on the Groves site could be potentially moved to the nine-acre site – this means that the principle of the original Covenant would still be adhered to- Covent moves of this nature have occurred in various locations across the UK. This leaves the Council with the Groves Building but not restrictions in it’s use.
    5. The Council sell off the St Marys site for housing development generating a capital receipt.
    6. The new school becomes a joint Catholic / Anglican school to mirror the arrangement for St Joseph’s
    7. The Anglican Church’s “ Wrexham (Parochial) Educational Foundation” use funding from the Multi Million Pound Education Trust fund that has nearly £14 million which potentially could increase with the sale of land around Bryn Estyn when the LDP is signed off.

How much is conspiracy and how much is fact/ reality – perhaps Wrexham.com and the campaigners will find out the answers.
