The Council have been busy with the road sweeper around town and it does make a difference. I hope that when they improve King Street they include money to clean the outside of the Bus Station , there is a green film on much of the curved part of the roof and the cladding in many parts is filthy. A wash and brush up of the outside of the building would have a positive impact on the street scene.

This was mentioned at this mornings town centre forum – Town Centre Forum

“Empty Shops Embarrassing The Town – A proposal was raised to create vinyl designs to brighten up the street scenes on empty shops in town. The old Burton’s shop looks ‘in a particularly sad state’ due to the fly posting and old displays – plus a broken window. Alex Jones of The Bank Bar wanted to know whether any of the £20,000 allocated to improve the perception of the town centre would be spent on cosmetic improvements to the vacant shops around town. Isobel Watson responded that costs have been requested (aside from the ‘perception budget’) but the council will need permission from the owners of the properties to make any changes. Kevin Critchley, of Eagles Meadow claimed the best way to gain their attention was to ‘embarrass them’ with the current state of shop appearance.

Another simple thing to improve the street scene would be the relocation of the dustbins on York Street neatly placed equidistant from our Grade 1 listed Parish Church and the entrance to our multi million pound shopping complex Eagles Meadow. They are are growing in number , have a very unpleasant smell , are often overflowing and are ugly to look at. Surely there must be either health and safety or environmental reasons to have them moved .

Six years later and today Wrexham.com reports that the bins on Yorke Street are going to be dealt with. Hopefully or won’t be another six years before the action is implemented!

Our planners seem to have a blind spot about bins. Let’s hope it doesn’t take 6 years to find a new home foe the bins which have appeared on the front lawn by the library. Presumably they were displaced by the building of the police station.
