This thread was started by Daaave regarding the cost of remedial electrical works in the markets. No mention was made WHATSOEVER regarding the report being submitted to the EB and IS committee for consideration. Subsequent posts followed the original lead.
Then, lo and behold, Rob brings the report into the equation. Subsequent to that, Alun once again steps onto his markets soapbox and digresses into a monologue about the viability or otherwise of the markets, totally missing the point of this thread.
He does however, quite correctly state that I have no knowledge of the markets whatsoever, but that is an irrelevancy when the debate is about the cost of tradesman’ work to the Council and to others, I might add.
I stand by what I said, the charges in my opinion are reasonable and appropriate. If you want verification of the way tradesmen across the Country charge, try Googling it!!

BenjaminM, Whilst this thread was started about the cost of electrical work in the market. The thread was taken from a report on the general charges incurred by market tenants. I can assure you that having had a stall in the Butchers Market for 17 years, some of the charging for services have been horrendous. One year tenants received a bill for services of £93,000 which was on top of their rent.Tenants asked to scrutinise the charges and on so doing, had the bill reduced to £59,000. So you see that by Wrexham.com highlighting these charges it is of interest to some people.Maybe not you,in which case keep stum.

    Typically myopic response from Benjamin

I’m sure Benjamin that if you think about it long enough that you would appreciate why Wrexham.Com might be interested in the elements of the Costs that WCBC seem to have listed in their outgoings for the various Markets. No one, least of all me, actually cares about the bills that a tradesman might generate if you call him/her out to your house…..they might, however, care about the approach that WCBC takes to the running of the Markets in the current context. The current context, which might have somehow passed you by, is one of evaluating the viability of said Markets.

Various thoughts pass through my mind on this subject….

Firstly, does the Council retain an in-house Electrician on its books in the way that it has IT recovery technicians and if it does, are the charges apportioned to the Market notional or actual? If it is the former, does this actually distort the perception of the viability of the Market if pursued consistently?

Secondly, is the risk vs task strategy adopted at an overly cautious level on this type of subject. Is it actually necessary, for example, to have an electrician changing a bulb?

Thirdly, is there a case to devolve such matters to the traders in some way so that the traders could actually source services like Electrical ones on competitive basis, possibly by retaining a local company at a preferable rate.

Just to comment on your style of discussion Benjamin. You are always rude and I suspect that you throw in words like Soapbox to detract from what was a reasonable comment. I have no Soapbox, neither am I a Market trader any more. I try to make reasoned comments, right or wrong, and enjoy the dialogue that flows on here….most of the time. Accordingly, I have stepped outside my normal pattern and used the phrase Myopic above as a description of what you have written. Others are less generous. For the life of me I can’t see why you would bother to comment on a thread that has no interest for you, why you would question some genuine and intelligent reporting and why you are so short with your fellow inputters

Alunh, Whilst I was in the Butchers Market the Council used their own electrician for changing bulbs, socket testing etc

I noted that the electrical company involved with last night’s Christmas lights switch on actually came from Prestatyn, wonder how many hours they charged for and what the hourly rate was?

The most serious point that has occurred as this thread has developed is the glarring error made by BenjaminM, its Daave!, not Daaave! 3A’s, 3A’s, I’m not a bloody sports club in Chirk for god’s sake!
3 A’s in Daave that is just ridiculas! Cheers maate!
