Today the Wrexham Leader printed a wholly misleading article about the amount of EU funding coming into the area over the past 10 years- the figure of £15 million is grossly undervalued
Copy of my letter to the paper is shown below.

    To Wrexham Leader letters page
It is surprising that the only figure highlighted in the lead article in the Leader 27th June was only provided by Wrexham Council.

Not knowing what question that was actually asked but if it was Council EU funding then we can only assume that they gave the right figure — if however you need to know the full level of funding coming into Wrexham then it is likely to be double that of the £15 million quoted.

There has been significant research funding channelled through Glyndwr University , Coleg Cambria has been involved with the Erasmus programme, Communities First has lots of EU funded job support staff, various arts projects, children’s Genesis project, Engagement Gateway. Cefn Mawr Town improvement, Ebeneezer Chapel Cefn, King Street bus station and surrounding area.
The list goes on – at a time of uncertainty people need to be given full facts and at present that has not been portrayed in your article.
Perhaps Derek Vaughn the MEP for the area can provide a more accurate figure so that the people from Wrexham will actually know how much they are going to lose due to the exit– one thing is bound to be certain is that Wales wont get it’s fair share of the so called EU savings if they carry on using the Barnet formula.

So over the last ten years the UK taxpayers paid the EU £130,000,000,000 130 billion quid and they gave us some back.

    Wales Online
    “The A465
Hundreds of millions of EU funding has been poured into the A465.
In September last year, the £82m alone of EU funds helped pay for more than half of the £58m 7.8km third section of the road from Brynmawr to Tredegar.
In total, the cost of the entire project is £800m with a significant amount coming from the EU.”

£82m of our money. Kind of the EU to give us some of it back.

Well I’m sure Westminster will provide the money we have thrown away from the EU, after all they have a long tradition of looking after Wales..
    Oh hang on…

Westminster will only pay Wales when the first pink pig flyes through the sky

19 projects where Wales benefits from EU funding. Am I missing what money is coming to North East Wales & Wrexham in particular?

Westminster currently pays Wales about 2 billion quid a year more than it pays.

Andy why are you using a link to figures that are 10 years old 2006 was a totally different economic state for the country– the year the National Assemblky for Wales was established
Here are recent figures re the net benefit to Wales from EU funding

You also have not made any reference to non devolved budget issues such as Welfare Payments. Pension, Police, Military amongst a whole raft of other services that are UK wide.

You also need to recognise that the current Barnet Formula for allocation of funds is accepted as not being appropriate by ALL political parties.
