“Originally there was a house on this site known as Ypsytty Ucha (Upper Hospital) – a name hinting at perhaps a past connected to friars or monks. In the 19th Century the house was called Llwyn Isaf and became home to the vicars of Wrexham.”
It has always been called Llwyn Isaf. This is the first time I’ve heard it called ‘Hospital Field’ but this may be a reference to the old War Memorial Hospital which occupied the site of the college. I believe the ‘Library Field’ reference is commonly used amongst the student population.
Is there a name plaque on the field? I walk through it but haven’t noticed if there is or isn’t. If not there should be otherwise a whole generation might not realise it is named already.
It was known as The Library Field when I was a kid. Its official name is Llwyn Isaf, it’s local name is The Library Field… never heard it called The Hospital Field though.
