This hasn’t been mentioned elsewhere but it’s a sorry state of affairs when Executive Board policy drives a youth football club from where they have regularly played for years, over the ridiculous country park car parking charges.

It is all on their Twitter feed

    https://mobile.twitter.com/llayunitedyfc?lang=en

Council would be expected to raise £10k in parking revenues from kids playing football.

Some parents have stated their children would no longer be able to afford to play for the club and subsequently the club has made the decision to move out of the village.

The club raised a question in the Exec meeting the other day, only for the 2 members responsible Clr Atkinson & Clr Bithell to completely fail to answer the question.

Just another example of Wrexham children and less well off families being left behind & discriminated against
Part and parcel of the current budget.

    Shameful.

    Jesus Matt, it’s a pound for 24 hours. A pound. £1. A single pound.

Honestly son, sometimes it looks like your hooked on outrage.
It’s only 9am and you’re already bonkers angry, doesn’t bode well for the rest of the day.

Look at that nice Alun Hughes (smashing looking lad).
People stay out late and get up early just to literally shit on his doorstep.
You never see him kicking off like this.
    Think on.

I’m just following up from the Wrexham.com article yesterday and an argument that has broken out on Twitter between the Executive lead member for youth services and anti-poverty who resides in Llay himself and the local football club and other concerned members of the public.

If the club have an issue with the charges and queries its affordability for the children and families relating to the team, to the extent that they need to uproot themselves from their home pitch, then obviously it’s not really acceptable for an Executive Board member charged with dealing with youth services and anti-poverty to refuse to effectively address the situation. Otherwise you have to question their very suitability for the role.

This should all fall into the scrutiny process of the executive board, members should be measured on their relative performance based on the areas they deal with and how many issues have been deal with in an effective manner.

    This one remains unsatisfactorily unresolved.

That’s a lot of words but it’s still a pound.
    Just £1.
    A single quid.
Nobody’s getting driven away from playing football for a quid.

They’ll need this when it all kicks off..

How much does parking cost there?? I thought it was meant to be a quid or something!?

In the club’s mind all those just £1 for parking add up to a total cost of £10,000 to all involved.

Parking cost is a big deal in this town – hence the overdrawn fight over charging Councillors for parking. It’s the equivalent of Wrexham’s Boston Tea Party.

All I know is that young Clr Atkinson is getting in a right tizz about the backlash that is going his way.

If the parents are worried about paying a pound to park, they should be grateful that their kids chose to play football instead of golf or sailing!
