Council WatcherParticipantReally interesting FOI to Wrexham Council based on news article in Liverpool Echo from a Kindom employee whistleblower

MattParticipantI notice as usual that there is a very long response lag – 8th August. However, definitely some points of interest to be picked up on and raised by opposition councillors when the meeting relating to cancelling Kingdom’s contract comes up.
Would be very interested to hear about the state of play in Wrexham – re: Zero hours contracts and payment of bonuses.

Council WatcherParticipantThe time period for a response is a statutory requirement so in this case, the Council are not delaying- miraculously they might respond early as all information should be readily accessible.

Well they took 3 weeks to give me effectively a one liner that they didn’t hold the information I requested, so I very much doubt they will speed things up. They love a good bureaucratic process.
The FOI process is useful but it still draws everything out to the council’s advantages. It’s literally like drawing blood out of a stone.
You have to use an FOI because you suspect the council wouldn’t tell you otherwise, then you have to craft your questions in a way that will ensure you cannot in any way be fobbed off by misinformation or allow them to deliberately misinterpret it to say they don’t have the information you asked for. Then once you have made your FOI strike you will then have to wait weeks to get a response. Actually getting a positive hit on something they don’t want to get out could take months!
Otherwise you’d have to hit them with some kind of scattergun approach – following several lines of enquiry in the hope you hit onto something juicy.

Wrexham1ParticipantNow the council have banned the public from attending tonights scrutiny meeting on Kingdom. What is Councillors Bithell trying to hide?

Wrexham1ParticipantSo Conwy Council have now voted to get rid of Kingdom, we should find out tomorrow if Wrexham Council will be doing the same

It is my understanding that if we hear nothing then the contract still stands until further notice. No-one is allowed to report anything on the meeting. What a joke.

According to Wrexham Against Kingdom Security, the information will be released tomorrow once WCBC issue their decision notice. Apparently though, the meeting was described as “very frustrating”, which doesn’t sound promising.

Council WatcherParticipantThere seems to be misinformation about Conwy kicking Kingdom out — according to the Daily Post, the contract has been extended by 12 months as the Council feared they would lose £200k of penalty notice income.

CarolThomasParticipant“Council Statement”
Following a Part two meeting of Wrexham Council to discuss the current contract with Kingdom Enforcement the following decisions have been taken:
1. Due to the current length of contract and associated penalty clauses for early termination the Council will continue as we have not found any breach of contract by any of the staff employed by Kingdom.
2. The Council believe that the professional manner in which the contract has been implemented has ensured that we (the Council) are saving money on street cleaning.
3. Any person who believes they have been issued with a ticket wrongly are able to appeal the decision – there is in most instances adequate evidence to show the offence took place.
4. The Council is gaining significant income from this profit-sharing schemes that result in surpluses being put back into the Council funds.
5. Residents who believe that the Enforcement officers have acted in an inappropriate manner should look at themselves and ask why they dropped litter in the first place and take responsibility for their actions. In summary, we (the Council) know best and you (the citizens of Wrexham) are the cause of all the problems go and do your shopping in another town and litter their streets as you are not welcome in Wrexham.
In line with many ‘news’ items on the internet, this as you can appreciate is a False News but may not be far from the truth when/IF a statement is made from the Council or IF/When a Councilor decides to leak as tory which may or may not be true.
