This may seem a little off the wall, but it has caused a serious debate in the office this week!

A trivia question was raised : Name the only British football team named in the Bible?

My answer arsenal [mentioned in the Bible relating to a stash of weapons etc] was dismissed out of hand.

The ‘actual’ answer was then credited as Queen of the South.

If your life [or a £10] depended on it, which side of the fence would you come down on – arsenal or Queen of the South ??

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/aug/01/the-knowledge-archive-special-bible has a good piece on this topic, as it seems there are lots of others!

“It is often said that ‘Queen of the South’ is the only team mentioned in the Bible – but I can find many mentions of ‘Bury’ (starting in Genesis 23) and ‘Reading’ (Acts 8:28), and, stretching a point, ‘Hearts’ and ‘Wolves’ also get some space.

Other examples are included with Spurs, the Hammers, and Forest.

Dont forget the verses from the Book of Mills (3:16) “Thoust who reform will still be as crap as the previous club” which biblical scholars widely agree refers to Chester.
