wrexviewParticipant“Updating the council’s Housing Allocations Policy to make it easier to find more permanent accommodation for people who are homeless – in line with Welsh Government’s direction.”
Why is this only being done now? Surely our Council and Councillors should have done this before. Were they prohibited from doing so by the Assembly?

TimRegencyParticipantThey were prevented or held back from doing so by vicious Tory council cuts, aka ‘austerity.’
Thankfully, the Assembly seem to have found a way forward, in spite of these austerity cuts, irrationally endorsed by Conservative voters.

WreX-iTParticipantTim, WHY does it ALWAYS come back to the nasty and vicious Tories with you?
Homelessness would be a problem no matter who is in power. Labour put out a second division team at the election and the Tories won new voters because of Labour’s stance on BREXIT!
I COULDN’T vote Labour because of BREXI but would never vote Tory.Stand for local MP Tim and see if you can help the country get back on track.
PS I think that Housing the Homeless will invite other homeless people to come to Wrexham to have a home

MattParticipantWhere do I get some Parliament Headed Letter Paper to condemn this in a poorly phrased manner? It’s the done thing these days right?

JaneJParticipantHomelessness should not be made into a political football issue as it has been around for 100’s of years across all the combination of political colours when they have been in Government – this is a Societal issue which goes way beyond the actions of one particular party.
Remember every person who is homeless has come from a family somewhere – what has happened in the person life to get them to where they are now — they certainly didn’t get an “A” level in Homelessness when in school.
Without looking at the triggers and dealing with them at an early stage we will always be faced with people on the streets. All the arrangements in place due to Covid to get the homeless off the street was more to protect the rest of society as they had been seen as potential carriers- rather than they were a vulnerable group of individuals who were at a huge risk of dying on the street which was not politically acceptable for any party.
Let us hope that all the extra money is going to be spent wisely and full wrap around support put in place- not just for the current cohort but also those at risk of becoming homeless- for many people it is only the loss of three wage packets that could see them roofless and on the streets.

zingerParticipantYou have to accept that to some people it is a lifestyle that they choose. I am not talking about addicts or veterans.
Going back more years than I care to remember they were called roadsters or tramps by those who were not so polite. They travelled around the countryside, living rough & it was said that they marked the houses of those who were kind & offered a drink & a bite to eat. I do know that my home was visited on a number of occasions. They were no trouble & after a drink of water & a piece of bread & butter they moved on. They would take nothing else. Some were very well, even university educated & had just dropped out of what we would call today the rat race or society.
When investigated I understood that many tent dwellers on the Groves site had homes but chose to live in a tent.
