“The new regional centres will bring our staff together in more modern and cost-effective buildings in areas with lower rents.”

I doubt rents in Cardiff are cheaper than here in Wrexham. The town continues to leech jobs which in turn has a knock on effect for the prosperity for our local economy. Skilled well paid jobs like these are hard to replace.

“The big thing is we are creating more jobs in Wales overall. That does not help much for people in Wrexham but we have to look at the bigger picture.

The bigger picture is that yet again Cardiffs (South Wales) gain is North Wales loss. How many families can relocate to Liverpool or Manchester without disrupting the lives of partners & children.

Why isn’t the WAG kicking and screaming about Wrexham HMRC jobs being moved to England ?
Are they so transparently apathetic towards NORTH Wales that they just don’t care so long as the net number of HMRC jobs in Wales overall is the same ( or higher ), not at all bothered about up North so long as SOUTH Wales is alright. Well thanks very much WAG !

What would the WAG say if the Cardiff HMRC jobs were moved to Bristol ?
    I suppose thats different altogether.

Its totally unrealistic to expect the number of HMRC jobs in Cardiff to reach up to 3,800 as well. The WAG itself is being fobbed off. Technology should reduce the number of staff needed in the public sector, whether in Wales, England, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Centralising HMRC in Cardiff will just make it easier to eventually outsource or transfer elsewhere in the future.
WAG should be fighting to retain HMRC in Wrexham, Porthmadog and Swansea – not just protecting Cardiff all the time.
Honestly, what use is the WAG to North Wales ?

” HMRC said it currently had around 2,900 staff in Wales, including 350 in Wrexham, 300 in Swansea, and 20 in Porthmadog.”

If you’re concerned about Wrexham / Wales losing jobs to Liverpol / England please sign the petition:

Civil Servants have had no payrises at all, even to keep up with inflation, for many years and now are threatened with forced long commutes or redundancy. Also means no Compliance teams anywhere in North or Mid Wales. Seems to me a charter for tax ‘avoidance’ to bloom! Can’t see any logic in relocating to more expensive city-centre land either – surely no benefit to tax-payers either!
