Reading the article on Wrexham.com about the opening of Hafan y Dref to help those people who are worse the wear for drink or substances in the town has surprised me – not about what it is to be used for but the name.
The translation means Home Town– how many of our ‘drunken’ people will be Welsh speakers- and even then they would have no idea.
Why on earth could they not just call it something like ‘Evening Recovery Centre’
If the Centre is to help the night time economy revellers then they need to know that there is such a place — having a name Hafan y Dref will not help them.
Your news item also omits to mention who will actually be running the Centre and how many volunteers are expected to be up most of the night looking after drunken revellers- and these will be in addition to the very successful Street Pastors that operate around town.

Oh what a great idea! Does this mean that instead of spending 4-5 hours in casualty if someone needs stitches, has sprained their ankle or similar injuries they can simply just pop down to Hafan Y Dref tonight and get treated quicker?

Janey. I think you’re focusing too much on the positives here. So what if it treats people more effectively? It’s the name that counts.

Perhaps you will be breathalysed first to see if you are over the limit if positive you get treated if you are not then you have to go to A & E and wait 5-7 hours. Is this equitable and fair?

Evening/Night time recovery/help centre would have been a much more ‘user friendly’ name and one that most people, whether from the area or not, could relate to.

Hafan y Dref sounds like it’s an housing estate or school.
