    MHOL:
Did you know that you can use a mobile phone, tablet or computer to book or cancel an appointment with your GP, or request a repeat prescription? All you need to do is sign up to use My Health Online services.

You can also use My Health Online to see medications and allergies. Patients at some practices can also view their GP record in more detail, which could include patient immunisations.

Just like online banking you can sign up for a range of online services from your GP. Although these will vary from practice to practice and will depend on what your practice is offering.

    CHOOSE PHARMACY:
Choose Pharmacy aims to free up GP time to deal with people with more complex needs, as up to 18% of GPs’ workload and 8% of emergency department consultations are estimated to relate to minor ailments, such as coughs, colds, earache, hay fever, conjunctivitis and head lice.

As the Choose Pharmacy platform is integrated with the NHS Wales network, pharmacists have access to the medication details within the patient’s Welsh GP Record, to help them make informed decisions.

Pharmacists can also undertake medication reviews when a patient is discharged from hospital and provide an emergency supply of prescribed medicines at evenings and weekends.

Its also making the supply of emergency medicines safer as the pharmacist can view a summary of medicines in the patient’s GP record and will be made aware of the patient’s current medications, allergies and adverse reactions.

The Choose Pharmacy service includes a flu vaccine service, which allows patients to consult their pharmacy as well as their GP to receive a flu jab, and an emergency hormonal contraception service.

As stated on another thread , why doesn’t NHS Wales issue bi monthly prescriptions to those on long term repeat prescriptions? Whatever the method of ordering a prescription it still needs a GP to check and sign it off, bi monthly prescriptions would cut that time by 50%. Some parts of England send 6 individual prescriptions to pharmacies at one time cutting GP’s work load even more. If this is a financial decision, then the six month option is neutral, as it is only dispensed one month at a time.

Shadow – the system for appointments is available as you said but there are still many GPs that don’t take on line appointments- such a pity as it would save holding for ages on the phone at 8.00am
