If delivery of public services is devolved to Trusts, what need or purpose is there for a council?

Less services = less managers, less staff and yes there should be less Councilors. With fundamental changes to the shape of service delivery by Councils in the future means they should never remain the same and should adapt to their new role.

Could WCBC reply to these suggestions, as it is obvious they read this forum.

That is pretty much why Mark Pritchard, our illustrious leader threw his toys out of the play pen and said no no no we won’t play with Flintshire.

And also why he is now looking for friends in Blaenau Gwent or Merthyr the y must be better playground school mates for the Leader rather than Flintshire

Many thanks for the positive dialogue.

The Lead Member has provided assurances that he will bring a report back in April which will look at the costs/risk assessment of the various options, including a newly formed Wrexham Trust and make his recommendations accordingly.

The challenge now for me is all about starting a wider public debate, so as to ascertain if there is an appetite for a Wrexham Trust and if so who has the time and the necessary skill set to serve as a Trustee.

    Open to suggestions.

Phil – I admire your enthusiasm over this and agree the way forward is a Wrexham Trust — before you get any of us on these threads possibly signing up we need to know what it is that is being proposed. Need more information please.

It’s a month since anything was posted on this one, and we talked in the pub last night about the things that are being discussed in Wrexham but always seem to remain the same year after year.

Being very boring, we talked about the services that could be increased, cut or changed, and we came back to the overall budget. Until Wrexham Council spend a full meeting … 1, 2 , 3, 4 hours or more … debating each of the twelve budget and spending areas one at a time in twelve different meetings … Councillors will not, and we will not, understand how well or poorly money is spent, and whether more or less is needed …

As we as talking through the facts, such debates would also clear up a lot of questions raised in these forums

The Lead Member had originally stated his intention to bring a report back to the Executive Board in March but subsequently announced the report would be put back until April.

At last weeks WCBC’s Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee it was announced that the report will now be presented in May.

I am hopeful the time delay is a positive indication that the Wrexham Trust option is being formulated for approval by the Executive Board.

With the need to deliver £45m of cuts to our budget over the next three years it is clear certain non-statutory services will stop unless we can find a different delivery model.

Consultation on the future of the sound studio at the Vic is a prime example, as is the provision of dual leisure facilities at school sites.

From personal experience it’s the drafting of business plans, the holding of director meetings, financial accounting, grant applications etc which can prove the daunting challenge. However if the support network can be put in place asap then there is every hope new entities will flourish.

Can we all assume that the Wrexham Trust will be made up of the same Councilors who are failing our town at the moment. As a regular at Wrexham Library no one has asked me what I think or if I would like to be a Trust member, non of the staff have a clue what is going on (appalling staff management). You cannot run a community Trust without the community being involved.
Equally I have a number of friends in the arts community in Wrexham and non of them have been asked to be a part of any development or for their assistance.
Please can Clr Wynn list who is being consulted as it certainly appears it is not the Community who will be asked to foot the bill in the future or be part of a Management Group.
Sorry Clr Wynn I don’t think you have got the measure of the Lead Member yet and the manipulations that go on behind closed doors.
Personally if you don’t get the measure of Lead Members and their officers you would struggle in Westminster as the behind closed door activity is even greater. If he is now delaying until May what is it he is researching, who is advising and how much are we all paying again for consultants. Lets see if you will ask the questions now before the report is even written– when will the report go to Scrutiny or will it go straight to Executive Board!!
    You are being strung along..
