myfanwyParticipantAre Vinci wanting to go out of business? Or just want to make Eagles Meadow obsolete!!

DarlofanParticipantThe problem is Eagles Meadow is the main car park for the shopping centre which is where the majority of out of towners/1st time visitors would head for. As we all do when going to a new town for the first time, you tend to get in the first big car park you see or you head for the car park attached to the main shopping centre. So visitors are immediately put off by car parking costs and are unlikely to return. These are the people Wrexham needs to be attracting too and spreading the word. Locals who know the town will use other cheaper car parks as I do/or Tescos!!
On the subject of Vinci trying to get it’s contract terminated (which is blatantly obvious). Is it naïve of me to think when awarding the contract there was not a clause limiting price rises to a certain percentage? Surely that’s common sense!!!!

SimonParticipant£5 for 2-hours parking at a shopping venue which ticks all the NO boxes? No roof? A wobbly journey over Wrexham’s ‘Bridge Over The River Kwai’? A crap Spanish fountain, mobile phone shops….. What about the disabled? O.A.P’S? A fiver?
I’m gutted. Devastated. This is going to mean the Council is going to up the prices for the parking on St George’s Crescent when I’m going for fish and chips at Jones’. And it’s going to be much harder to find a parking space there

99DylanJonesParticipantI wonder how long it will be before we see that one of the floors are closed off and a night club or casino are built as part of the property owners attempt to maximise rental income.

Forlorn HopeParticipantHaven’t read through all the posts so this might have been answered but which total numpty was responsible for signing off an agreement that would allow an outside company to come in and have a free hand at demolishing local business without anything to stop them?

jimbowParticipantWould it not be possible in the interests of Wrexham Town Centre that the Council remove Eagles Meadow car parking from the illuminated signs,or at least show the car park as being full. This would hopefully deter any new visitors to Wrexham getting the wrong impression of the town.Wrexham has to live as well as Vinci

Great idea Jim…..or even display the Vinci spaces but, given that the signs are Council operated and owned by Wrexham rate payers, add a price guide indicating the competitive non-Vinci prices to be obtained elsewhere……always assuming that some bright spark brings the prices down to make this a reality.

KatiaParticipantWrexham.com piece confirms Eagles Meadow parking is offered by Vinci Park Services via a separate lease (not a contract from Eagles Meadow).
Mr Critchley explained: “Vinci have a lease and don’t manage the car park on behalf of Eagles Meadow. This being the case, could a solution for Eagles Meadow to attract shoppers be found in amending their website, and any media advertising – to direct customers to council car parks. Highlight these more affordable options, but retain the information re disabled and mother and child parking availability in attached multi-storey with access lift – show people have a choice.
All EM shops could do the same, plus Odeon and tenpin.co.uk, unless they have separate contractual agreements with Vinci, why advertise the most expensive parking online – amend their websites to reflect the cheaper parking options available.
It could save Frankie & Benny’s paying some £20 voucher promotion subsidies for starters.
Looking at EM ” FIND US ” it solely refers to Vinci parking and directs all shoppers to it – why not change this pronto ?
Parking – Eagles Meadow Shopping CenterNaturally to optimise this strategy, we do require Wrexham Council to maintain their competitive edge and NOT increase parking rates.
Even better having been alerted to Wrexham Savers Facebook reference to Rotherham’s parking initiative, could we have something similar.
Rotherham Town Centre offers an early Christmas present | Rotherham Metropolitan Borough CouncilYork and many other towns have a plan for Christmas shoppers.
Car parks – City of York CouncilI’m impressed Andrew Atkinson is on the right track with his town parking survey etc and making the right noises on twitter and facebook. So far as I know this survey can’t be accessed online – could it be incorporated on Wrexham.com ?
Quite sure Mr Lucas will be on the case too, even so well done Mr Atkinson.

99DylanJonesParticipantIf there was an enterprising Taxi company in Wrexham with access to some land t would now be as cheap for them to cooperate a park and ride!! Two couple in each car split the cost and door to door service..

RobParticipantIn terms of owners and leases I *think* Merlin UK Venture Property SARL 1 are the ones mentioned on planning applications for Eagles Meadow as the development is known, which appears managed via Jones Lang LaSalle as the agents.
The ‘owners’ Merlin UK Venture Property SARL 1 have a 250 year lease from Wrexham Council from 2008.
Vinci then have a lease from Merlin / their agents.
Merlin are based out of Luxembourg, so its hard to find out who they are.
It will be interesting to see if the Eagles Meadow / Council lease is a publicly releasable document, or if it is kept confidential to ensure the Council maintains a competitive advantage etc in 200 odd years time :)
