TheSpectreParticipantEither up to a 5% council tax increase or a 6% council tax increase (I think it will be 6%) and we have yet to wait how much the police precept will be on top plus an increase in the community council charges.
Yes its such a joy to pay more and see less and poorer services, who wins certainly not the public.November 2, 2018 at 12:10 pm #158280
AnonymousInactiveIt’s ok to accept a pay rise though…..AGAIN!

TimRegencyParticipantWell, I assume people want all of this, otherwise they wouldn’t vote for the party of austerity – the Conservatives. But by all means, continue to be impressed by daft arguments about how the alternative will transmogrify the UK into Venezuela. It’s the righties who really excel at the old scaremongering.

wrexviewParticipantSeems a pointless exercise to consider a £5000 cut here or £50,000 cut there when last year two departments overspent by a million pounds each. Perhaps the Council can explain where the £2,000,000 came from to cover those overspends. Are we being asked to make deeper cuts this year to cover last year’s errors? Did the money to cover the mistakes come from Capital Reserves? Will the Council guarantee the same will not happen in the next financial year.

Council WatcherParticipantThe problem with many of the ‘potential’ cuts is that they are mainly low levels and a piece meal approach – the high level of strategic overview of the whole Council seems to be missing.
The fact that the Environmental Department had such a large over spend is a disgrace and shows mismanagement- have a look you can’t find anyone yet giving a full explanation of what has happened- who and when should this have been spotted and what steps were taken to stop it escalating.
Although difficult to accept that Social care was also over drawn that service has a lot of variables with an increasing demand — with the refuse Department surely that was a static known demand at the beginning of the year so why the excess spends. You only need to drive around the areas on a bin collection day and the number of times the vehicles are static for hour plus is ridiculous and shows that no one in management is taking any notice of vehicles not working.

Don’t forget that the drivers of those vehicles are required by law to take their statutory breaks and that all crew members are entitled to meal breaks.

Have said before this does not come cheap, apart from all the extra people needed to collect the stuff, it then costs a fortune to recycle it all, and it certainly doesn’t make any money.
Also it is easy to criticise the actual people at the pit face, but you can bet your life that if they have it easy then the next up the line will have a nice cushy job until it goes all the way up through to the Council hierarchy and there lies the problem probably through out the Council.
P.W.C. tried and failed to sort it out, although they made a nice little packet out of it.

Council WatcherParticipantAMA – no issues about staturtory breaks and keeping within the law — how many peoople however see the vehicles parked up for about an hour round about 8.30 then again about 12.15- surely they are not entitled to bteaks based on mileage or drive time.
The park up points are very visible for all to see – if they can do their rounds fully with these ‘long extended’ breaks then surly they can cut the time allocated for eacgh round .I realise this is a general statement and may not apply to all refuse teams but they will know whuich fellow workmates the comments apply to..
