All roads in WCBC area have traffic counters across them, there is obviously a comprehensive survey underway. Who has funded this project and what are their aims and objectives? It is all very well obtaining the data but what are they doing to do with it. To cover the whole County must be an expensive exercise. Are the actual costs published anywhere in the public domain ?

Is it possibly an expansion on the standard Department for Transport existing traffic count points?

The ones listed here would be for 2016 – but surely it would be pointless/waste of money to duplicate counting systems if it was ran by someone else – unless in collaboration with the DfT.

I believe they are surveys for GoSafe Speed detection. They identify where vehicles are exceeding the speed limit.

Ken Skates recently made reference to it, as part of WAG planning around redesigning J4 on the A483. Seems pretty focused around the trunk roads and primary routes.

They just count the number of axles crossing them. If they were speed detectors they would record different speeds depending on the wheelbase of the vehicles crossing them.

Actually they do measure speed as well as traffic volume. They are not accurate enough to issue speeding tickets but they do measure speed for statistical purposes. Traffic volume can be measured by a single cable.

Possibly something to do with the LDP? There are some as you enter the Fairways estate on St Mellion’s Crescent. I think that road is one of a few that may be used as an access road if the houses are built on the Cefn Road.

They seem to have all gone now so whatever they were surveying for looks to have been completed. We might find out soon.

Loads still around Huw, maybe they are just relocating.
