Are WCBC employees getting a pay rise? Nope! Are the majority of people working in the County getting a pay rise? Nope! So why should councillors get one (again) in these uncertain times? If they decline it the monies saved go to pay off the Council’s deficit. A deficit that they are partly responsible for. And all the time we, Joe Public, suffer service cuts and rising Council Tax.

COUNCILLORS TAKE NOTE – we voted you into office so consult the people you purport to represent. We all know what their response would be. It would be nice to know, via Freedom of Information if necessary, which Councillors vote to accept or decline the rise.

This is like a broken record. Councillors cant give themselves pay rises, only some panel can. I think most councillors are a waste of space and damage Wrexham but FFS blame them for what they do wrong not what they have no control over. If you are that bothered why dont you email them all and ask if they are taking the rise or not. You could even publish the results on here.

You can check every Councillor’s payments on the Council website. It also shows the extra money received for travel etc. Councillor Jenkins has not taken his full allowance for a number of years. Other Councillors could follow his lead if they wanted.

People always complain about councillor pay, but perhaps if there wasn’t such a piss poor turnout at the local elections we might elect a half decent bunch worthy of the recommended remuneration they receive.

They have agreed to take the rise again, but they are not forced to accept it.

If BREXIT doesn’t happen then I am afraid the “piss poor turnout” will turn into a dribble of urine because nobody can trust a politician/ Councillor again. 59% of voters will/ do feel betrayed and not bother again.

People yack on about democracy and using your vote but when it counts for nothing who do you trust?

Getting back on track and they will get their nice pay rise no matter how they have performed over the year. Its life!

Wrex-IT only 30% turnout on average per ward in Local Elections so I very much doubt the majority of these disenfranchised Brexit voters (on either side) bother to vote anyway. Also uncertain why you would blame your councillors for the failure of Brexit they had absolutely no involvement and even if you are angry with the main political parties involved – well most of our councillors are independent so have no party affiliation.

At the end of the day people seem to treat politicians and elected officials differently to anything else in life – instead of actually using logic and trusting ones whose views are closely aligned – people get angry at the establishment and decide to swear off anyone to vote for full stop.

It’s a bit like having a bad experience in let’s say Asda and then boycotting Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl as well without any objective reasoning.

Let’s say fair enough you’ve absolutely had enough of all councillors and politicians and don’t trust any of them whatsoever. Well you know the next step there then – it’s to stand in the elections yourself or find a vocal person you trust and encourage them to stand and help them campaign.

Just look at what Farage achieved – for all his faults he failed to be voted in as MP 7 times between 1994 and 2015 (yes he got MEP in that time) but his persistence forced the Tories into calling the Brexit vote through continually building UKIP vote share.

In other countries you aren’t allowed a vote or freedom of speech – perhaps the finest thing about British democracy is the right to abstain from participating and then moan that things are unfair at the same time.

i was speaking as the man in the street Matt although i am disillusioned with the whole political circus.

With your logic Mattt, maybe you should stand. You do spout some rubbish at times but at least you have conviction. I would probably vote for you.
