kaideeParticipantI dont want to sound bitter or anything but, what some of the council staff will be going through now with their future being uncertain is, exactly what it has been like for all the traders in the peoples market since March 2014, being kept in the dark about what is going to happen in the market, the saying”what goes around comes around”springs to mind.

FerretParticipantActually you DO sound bitter.

johnhoppyParticipantNo one wishes to see people being made redundant, but in recent years the public sector has largely escaped the cuts which have been going on in the private sector for some time. They are not immune from the realities of life in the 21st century.

PeterthewatcherParticipantFollowing Tuesday’s Part 2 Council Meeting all the Senior Management had a meeting with the Chief Executive to be told what was happening–
One Strategic Director definitely going
Three Chief Officers to fight for two positions Public Protection, Economic Development, Planning Libraries Leisure and
Two other Chief Officers to fight for one job Education vs Children’s Safeguarding
Up to 200 management tier jobs all at risk as they are in scope’
Who is going to be left!!
What effect will this have on front line staff and services? When will we start seeing the cuts starting to hit?July 2, 2015 at 11:01 pm #96495
ScarterParticipantAll these cuts and Wrexham.com still seems surprised and think its newsworthy when the website goes down. Guess there’s not much else to report.

It is tricky to write about it when you are not allowed the information or to hear the debate, if there was one.
Here is a report on the unreportable, including query to council if there any more info that could be released: https://www.wrexham.com/news/council-to-discuss-senior-management-structures-in-secret-part-2-meeting-96291.html
The website being down for half a day is an issue if there is a push to eservices (often replacing humans), and much like the earlier report in June such downtime does not appear to be documented anywhere else.

ScarterParticipantToo much information in the public domain represents a significant security risk, especially where online data is concerned.

PeterthewatcherParticipantConcentration on the cuts is not what people should worry about but who is left and whether they have the skills to manage what is left.
A streamlined structure can certainly be efficient but not if those left lack experience and expertise.
If the expertise is not left then guess what Consultants will be brought in to take on management duties. PCW propose the cuts and then come back to do some of the jobs of the managers that have been made redundant.July 3, 2015 at 9:24 am #96504

I must agree with the sentiments expressed by Scarter. Just because a website becomes unavailable for a period of time due to technical errors, the use of the word’again’ in the header to the report intimates that it a frequent occurrence on the site.
I, along with everyone else,I am sure, has experienced the same problem with many many web addresses and if my memory serves me correctly, Wrexham.com has not itself been immune to unexpected downtime.
What I do find interesting however, is that particular note was made regarding the planning portal not being available. Would this have anything to do with the fact that it prevented Wrexham.com from reporting on Mrs Jones proposed loft extension (or similar) and thus depriving it from its’frequent reporting on yet another non story story?July 3, 2015 at 9:50 am #96505
R TKeymasterThe note regarding the planning portal tried to explain the scale of the outage. Last time Wrexham.gov.uk went down, planning stayed up. This indicates it was a website/webserver issue that time, however due to the way websites work it created an issue on the planning site look and feel as related files could not be pulled in so although it was up it was not useable.
There will be further downtime on Sunday – planned and notified – although one notice says urgent work and the other says routine.
Uptime stats are on https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/statistics/uptime.htm for those who are interested, which also shows the rarity of it happening.
