99DylanJonesParticipantIt s very interesting that the broadcast today is supposed to have a Live Chat facility — the delay on this between a submission and then having it listed is not acceptable and need to be improved.
The format generally is acceptable although not having a broader view of the Chamber to see who is present is nit ideal.August 5, 2014 at 2:16 pm #68739

RobParticipantIt appears it could be being moderated – unsure – are you able to place the comments on here , I will try and check after the meeting to if the comments were received or not.

wrexviewParticipantInteresting meeting , looks like the Splash Group are seeking £50,000 to help them get the Trust for Plas Madoc set up and a further £50,000 next year. Although on the surface this looks a non starter with the cuts , there is another angle. Figures mentioned in the meeting of the costs involved in demolishing Plas Madoc ranged from £250,000 to £300,000 ( Legal person in meeting agreed these figures were in public domain!) so if the Splash Group were given the £100,000 over two years and were successful , potentially the Council would SAVE £150,000 to £200,000 !

wrexviewParticipantExtra saving being looked at for next year in the region £4,000,000 and a council tax hike of 5% as well !

wrexviewParticipantThe broadcast is excellent except for one thing, it would be interesting to actually see how each council votes rather than just the Leader of the Council announce the result , 6 for the motion 2 against. If the camera can’t pan out perhaps as it is such a small committee each Councillor’s name could be read out and they could reply “for” or “against”. Knowing how each Councillor votes is a really important part of democracy.

99DylanJonesParticipantFrom a technical point this was quite good although no jumpy pictures- the volume could do with being increased as my computer was on full and on some occasions could not hear.
Although he might have been long talking — Clr Jenkins came over as the most passionate.
The Clrs do need to check some of their facts-
Plas Madoc was stated to cost £10k a month if an extension was granted beyond 1st October. This is incorrect as the £60k mothballing costs included all of the metal security fencing etc- which was a one of cost therefore the monthly charge is nit £10k.
The Arts and Culture Centre debate seemed to center around the potential use by the Police rather than does the Council even want a Culture Centre. We have not had a successful one when the budgets could have afforded one so how come when there is no money all of a sudden the Council has a vision- this is utter nonsense.August 5, 2014 at 3:56 pm #68727
wrexviewParticipantWould the People’s Market be anyone’s first choice for an Oriel Gallery ?

99DylanJonesParticipantFrom a design perspective 2 out of the 4 walls cannot have any day light. Most art people I’m sure would prefer to see artistic works in natural day light to see items as the artist intended.
Will the Council spend money looking after the toilets during the day as they are a disgrace in the Market at the moment.
There is no visual display space on Chester Street to attract people in to look around.
If you ask the market stall holders they will also tell you that Council officials have been monitoring cracks in the walls and ceiling for the last couple of years (is this significant!!)
How many of the existing visitors to the Oriel Gallery also visit the Library/cafe- if this is significant can anyone see people walking between the Library and Chester Street- I very much doubt it.
On a very practical level the ceiling height is very low so there will be no opportunity for large scale art display.
These are just a few basics that you would have expected the consultant to have identified in their report but non of these are included.August 6, 2014 at 8:08 pm #68734
wxmParticipantIf the community could sit in on each Council meeting, it would highly likely ask why are we paying £1m for councillors per annum, and probably a further £2m to process all the questions, debate and work in the background.
Democracy and transparency is the lifeblood of a community; but does the community need to spend millions each year on supporting the type of debate and activity that we see.
