If only the Council was financially able to buy the available commercial sites in the town. Income generating now and a legacy for the next generation to develop.
I don’t think that buying the properties would be WCBC’s wisest move even if funding was available.
What would be the point when companies and individuals are deserting town centres right, left and centre?
All it would do, a few weeks or months down the line would add to the ever increasing vacant property portfolio of WCBC.
Even WCBC are wise enough to steer clear of this insane idea.
Why is a commercial property owner disposing of their assets – because they are not making enough profit or there is significant costs for repairs in the next few years. No Council should invest in property that Commercial landlords are leaving as it would be commercial suicide.
The old tower block police station sold for more than two million and there will be huge demolition costs on top before redevelopment, so the other town centre sites look cheap by comparison. Remember land is a limited resource and will go up in value over time.
Shows how valuable the old Groves site is on the opposite side of the road to the old police station and the Council actually already owns that site !
