It is good to see that churches are opening their doors for the homeless with a large number of volunteers, it is however that this is only for a 10 week period when the issue is 52 weeks of the year- is this the Council again looking to volunteers to do a job they should be doing.

I haven’t seen the Church in Wales running any kind of campaign to end homelessness in Wales- why are they not demonstrating against the issue to achieve change rather than a sticky plaster on a massive society issue. Every little helps individuals but does not create a longer term solution.

Let’s hope that our Local Council Members, AMs and MPs wake up to an issue literally on their door step with people still sleeping in the doorway of the Council offices on Queens Square and the main Guildhall (even though they have put metal grills in place. If staff are having to literally step over bodies to get into work is that not a good enough reason to get things sorted.

Universal Credit is one of the main causes. It’s paid in arrears, and landlords will often not wait for 5 weeks for the rent. UC needs to be scrapped.

In Sept 2017 the Welsh Assembly released £2.1 million of taxpayers money to improve provision for the Homeless in Wales.

WCBC applied for money from this fund to purchase and equip Pods for the homeless to sleep in. So WHERE ARE THEY???
    No sign of anything happening!!!

Ian Lucas has been asking the same question, but Mark Pritchard treats Mr Lucas as the villain of the piece for being rude about his staff and ‘not getting his facts right’(though he doesn’t go to the trouble of enlightening us about which facts he’s got wrong.) A master class in messenger-shooting and victim-blaming, while homeless people freeze.

So they are “offering safe beds, a hot meal and a warm welcome to up to ten people every night for the next ten weeks, the coldest time of year.”

Is this first come first served and which good Samaritan turns away numbers 11, 12, 13 ….. ?

As usual Councillor X seeing the positive side of things – I’m sure there’s room in that bungalow for you to help a few poor souls. Before you say anything (and you will) I do work with The Wallich homeless charity.

Councillor X – I spoke with a friend last night who works with the Salvation Army in town and she told me that this project has already identified 10 homeless people who will have these beds over the next 10 weeks. So in essence this scheme will help the same 10 people. As for all the others, Im not sure?

Birdman & Llayby Lilly, I was making a positive comment and wanted to know what happens to the other people.

It should not be the responsibilities of churches and charities to look after the homeless, in the same way that charities should not be finding the cure for cancer or caring for children and animals.

The Government should solve its own problems first before spending £14.1billion on overseas aid

Good news, the council have installed modified shipping containers at Holt road in time for the cold snap. Well done to all concerned.

The homeless get shut up in the shipping containers and let out over the border ….
